No Fuel From The Injectors.
laser green 1.9 posted a topic in XU 8v Engine Maintenance and Performance Upgrades
It is a while since I've been on here but my 205 died on me on the way home last night. I was drive home when it started to stall and then cut back in. I had to restart it a couple of times but it did restart. Got it hope and check all the usual stuff. When back out and drove for about 1/2 a mile and then died completely. So I've spent the day trying to fix it. It turns over and I have a spark but I cannot smell any fuel. I've checked and cleaned the engine earth terminal, checked the continuity on the fly lead coming from the dizzy, Tried on old superchipped ecu that I have in the garage, I have fuel pressure at the rail the pump primes and continues to run Tried an old tachemetric relay, But nothing has worked. So my question is how do I trick the injectors into firing or what do I check next. My car is a standard 1.9 gti from 1991. Thanks, Mike. -
Dear All, I've had the starter motor clicking problem getting gradually worse for quite a while now. As with the other threads describing this, the key would turn, you'd hear a click from under the bonnet somewhere, and nothing would happen. Then, often if you keep turning the key over and over, eventually the starter would kick into life and everything would be good. Over the last couple of weeks this has gotten so bad that unless the battery was literally full (or on the charger), then no starting at all! So, I decided to do a little rewiring work in the engine bay, and also add the relay booster circuit which is described in several of the other threads. I took the opportunity to do a few things at once, including new starter motor, new alternator, completely replace everything after the brown multiplug (previously replaced with superseals), and add the relay. The relay circuit uses the starter feed from ignition, to energize a relay, before going to earth. The switched circuit of the relay goes from the large permanent live on the starter motor, through the relay and back to the solenoid start terminal which the starter feed would originally have been connected to, as shown in the below picture. Is this correct? Testing this on the bench, it seemed to work perfectly. Starter would come on, and stop immediately on removal of the signal feed to the relay. I then fitted it to the vehicle, and reassembled everything. When I came to start up for the first time, she fired immediately. Almost like she was on a hair trigger! Which I was delighted with, up until I noticed the engine noise was very different. I immediately switched off, and after the engine had stopped I could hear the starter winding down. i.e. the starter was remaining engaged (and powered) even though the ignition was not in the starting position. I tried starting several times, always with the same effect. So I've neatly gone from no starter at all, to a starter which won't turn off! Great. Does anyone have any ideas of what I've done wrong here? I've done quite a bit of work around the front end, so my relay mod might not be the only possible cause. I did notice that the starter is very twitchy on the key, and kicks in immediately if you so much as tickle the key past the ignition on position. Therefore, I was wondering if the ignition barrel might be making partial contact in ignition on, which isn't enough to cause a problem without the relay, but now is enough to be relevant? If that were the case you'd expect it to be permanently on whenever you've moved the key into the on position (but not as far as start). Any suggestions would be gratefully received! Many thanks, Mike

Hi guys, there has been a couple of threads about this but they were created wrongly so I will create this one about the problem in hand. so the story so far, about 2 weeks ago, the 205 started fine, no problems, since then I fitted the rear and front bumpers and some trim in the interior, then I had a dead battery, fitted a recharged one, and no starty. The engine turns over and there is fuel, I checked the two double relays in the dash and they are clicking as they should (some else’s issue on another thread). so I take the first plug out and rest it on the block and no spark, issue found, so I tested the volts at the coil plug from the loom and they were all reading just under 12v when cranking. I recently replaced the JPT plug on the coil as it was in a terrible state, it worked find after that for ages, and I planned on replacing the plug for the ignition amp as that was in poor condition as well, so I replaced the ignition amp with all new pins and plug. I turned it over and it fired into life, it was idling for about 15 seconds, and then it died, and won’t start again, NO SPARK AGAIN. Wiggled the plug around and still not starting, I was advised it might be the ignition amp so I put a wanted thread up (cheers for the reply’s) but I was too impatient and got one from Allparts, plugged this in and still won’t start. Does anyone have any ideas I could try? Could it really be the coil pack after it started fine when I replaced the plug? really need some help, ive been restoring it for 10 months now and when i can finially get it on the road this happends.
