1.6 XU5J crank float query
Grenouille posted a topic in XU 8v Engine Maintenance and Performance Upgrades
I posed the same question on my overhaul thread but thought I’d have better luck asking directly on here. During my engine rebuild I’ve disconnected the big end bearings, torqued the main bearing caps to 46 Nm and found a reliable means of measuring the float (dial gauge directly onto the con rod end). This gives me a float of 0.06 mm when levered with a large crow bar. As I lever it I get a higher reading of 0.1 mm approximately, however the needle settles back to 0.06 mm or so on release. The specification that I’ve read quotes 0.07 to 0.27 mm tolerance. Is this an acceptable end float? -
Mi16 Bottom End Resurrection Advice
MVK posted a topic in XU 16v Engine Maintenance and Performance Upgrades
Hi guys I've got an Mi16 on my bench which has spun the 2nd cylinder big end bearing. This is my first engine rebuild and first Peugeot so some advice is needed if possible. The crank pin of the second big end is ovalised, with the least worn area being 50.00mm (std) and the most worn at 49.56mm (most worn where piston is at peak and trough of stroke). The crank pin minimum limit for oversized Mi16 shells, after regrind, is 49.684mm, which would mean my crank pin is worn beyond service. I've seen T16 bearings come in +0.50mm and +0.80mm. Can these be used/ has anyone used these when their Mi's have gone through a chunk of crank? The area that is worn to less than the 49.684 limit is pretty small, probably about 15mm long, between the webs. It just seems a bit bodgy to have the crank ground to 49.68mm and have a section that is undersized still. I've also considered fitting an 8v crank as 16v ones seem hard to come by, does the lack of double-counterweights have a severe effect on anything? Any other advice? I think i'm going to replace the con rods anyway as the No2 rod is worn to almost 0.50mm bigger than the others. Any recommendations where to get these/ all other parts for reasonable prices? Student budgets make things tougher haha. Thanks in advance, Matthew. -
I have a few questions regarding a DTA S60 ecu if anyone can help. I looked every thread on the forum about the S40 version doing my research as that was what I was intending to buy but ended up getting a S60 with full loom instead. Crank Sensor: On the S40 there is only only output for the Crank, I have two to choose from with the S60. As I have very little knowledge on these types of things could someone tell me which one I should be using please? Crank Sensor Hall Effect or Crank Sensor Magnetic? From what I have read I want to say that I should be using the Magnetic sensor. Coil: Although the S60 ecu has the option for me to run individual coil packs I will be sticking with a wasted spark setup. I understand the 4 pin plug are normally wired like below: 1. Coil 1 + 3 2. Coil 2 + 4 3. 12v 4. I am getting confused which outputs I should be using for the coils. I know the firing order is 1342 so looking at the S60 wiring diagram should I be using O/P 10 for coils 1 + 3 and O/P 18 for 2+4? Can't get my head around it at all for some reason, it was easier on the S40 as I only had two outputs to choose from, now I have four. Injector/Cam Sensor I have worked out how to wire up the injectors but as I will be running a non sequential twin injector setup am I right in saying that I don't need to wire in one of the two cam sensor available? The cam sensor would only be required if I was running sequential yes? Any help/guidance provided will be appreciated. You never know I might actually get the car moving before the end of the year! Thanks for looking Geoff
