Hi everybody – long time lurker here, first post! I'm from Argentina and recently got a 205, a pretty well kept XS from 1992. It has 230k on the odometer which is quite a bit but the car is mechanically and aesthethically sound. I recently installed XS vinyls (here in argentina it came without any decals), Hella lights and some mudflaps for extra rally flair. I did some basic maintenance, changed cambelt, including water pump, oil and oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and clutch cable as the clutch was super stiff. It's smooth now. Here are a couple of pictures of the car: It's all been pretty smooth sailing so far, I've driven around 1000km in the last couple weeks with the car. However, there is something that bothers me: The RPM needle shakes like crazy. It is like a micro-shaking thing, it still displays the correct RPMs, but instead of holding steady it moves just a few mm to each side very fast. I do not thing this is an engine problem as the engine seems to rev just fine. Anyways, the visual part is not so bothersome as the sound is...it makes this mosquito-like stutter sound that is really loud inside the car. So even though it seems to be harmless, it is very annoying and I would like to fix it. I've done some research in the forums and found some people with a similar problem BUT with the speed needle which apparently goes away with a new speedo cable. But the tach doesn't work the same way (it's electronic, right?) so I'm kind of lost as to how to go about fixing it. Without looking at it in depth, a mechanic friend said that the problem is probably the needle or the mechanism in the cluster itself and I should change the instrument cluster but I would like to avoid it if possible as sourcing a good one could prove difficult here. Do you guys have any ideas what could be causing it and if I may be able to repair it? Thanks!

Hello, I have had many helpful replies to a thread I started on head skimming, but didn't want to contaminate that with electrical wiring questions - so thought it best to start a new thread. I hope this is the correct forum. At the end of 2017 my son bought an 8v 1.6 205GTI that he raced last year in the 750MC Classic Stock Hatch championship. This winter is it the first opportunity we have had to get stuck in to several issues we found during the course of that first season. The car (we think a ph1) had passed through several owners, and the wiring is a mess, lots of wires spliced in (e.g., Emerald ECU) and others chopped out. The championship rules dictate that the car should be capable of passing an MOT, and that the original wiring loom must remain. The ph1 dash was in a bad state, but he bought a ph2 dash at reasonable price and we have just fitted it. The ph2 switches fog, demist, hazard won't fit the ph1 sockets in the loom. I intend to make up little leads (4.8mm spades) to link between those sockets and switches - does anyone have the pinouts for any / all of those sockets? The instrument cluster has four 'edge' connectors across the top and a blue connector above the tacho - they are all present. However, there is a white connector (two conductor) below the tacho, we have no plug in the loom for that - what does it do? I'm sure other questions will arise - thank you in advance

Thinking of trying some LED bulbs in the rear clusters and front indicators. Got the list of bulb types required (BA15 and 510). Am I right in thinking all of the bulb sizes in the rear clusters are all BA15 - some of mine look slightly bigger from recollection (haven't got them with me). Was thinking of: REAR: x2 amber BA15 LED - one for each rear indicator in the cluster x6 red BA15 LED - three for each in the cluster - brake light x2 plus rear light x1 x1 white BA15 LED - for reverse x1 red BA15 LED - for rear fog FRONT: x2 amber BA15 LED - x2 for each main front indicators x2 amber 510 LED - x2 for each side front indicators Anyone tried these coloured LEDs in the indicators/clusters at all? Any good?
