  1. Good evening all. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 205. I need to get the sunroof frame back on the shell. Can the frame be fitted with Tiger seal, and the sunroof screws(and riv nuts). Has anyone done this with success or would it be best to order the foam seal from France? Or does anyone know of a UK dealer that makes the sunroof frame seal?
  2. Hi Guys, putting my sun roof back together and i cant work out how the safety brake wire goes onto the latch, does anyone have a pic of how its meant to look or tell me if theres something missing from this pic

    Quick Sunroof Question..

Evening all, I'm not one for posting much but could do with someone pointing out the obvious for me, Took my 205Gti project car apart 4 years ago and since then I've moved house twice, I know there's something not right here, but I could do with someone pointing out just exactly what I'm looking for in my garage full of boxes of bits of 205's \/ Whats the Missing Piece? \/ Before I resort to zip ties and gaffer tape!
  4. With this rain recently, my sunroof is becoming a nightmare. Its a tilt one, not the factory fitted slide one, now it looks like the metal 'frame' is corroded and the rubber seal has more the consistancy of a wet slice of bread, than rubber. the water will come straight through in very heavy rain, and in light rain the water will build up in the rubber seal untill you get in and drive round a corner, then it all goes to one side and soaks it. Trust me, that rubber seal seems to hold about 13 gallons! now I do use the sunroof in the summer, but if there wasnt one there, then it'd be cooler in the car anyway. so what are the downsides/upsides to doing this? less sun through roof = less sunburn? less water through sunroof = no more getting a soaking wet arse when you sit in the drivers/passenger? they can look quite good sometimes I'll be doing it myself with tigerseal and rivnuts currently i've put a strip of electrical tape over the bit where the glass meets the frame, all the way around, but thats only temporary Im not even sure if I can remove it without taking the headlining off first john
  5. Dear All, I have a 93 1.4 GTX, and the poor girl's on her last legs. I have been looking for some time for a Phase 2 1.9 GTI to replace her with, but they seem to be few and far between in the price range I am looking at (with <110k on the clock). Unfortunately, I'm being narrow minded, and I'm looking for either a Cherry Red or a Black one; but I haven't seen very many about (and I'm a newbie on this forum, so I'm not allowed to post a 'wanted'). I have however seen plenty of Phase 1.5s about, and the current GTX has the Phase 2 lights, so I should be able to do that part of the conversion. But what about the dash and interior trim, as I do think that they look much better with the black than the grey interior? So I was wondering; how difficult would it be to strip the entire dash and interior trim out of my GTX, and put it into another vehicle? Secondly, I quite like the sunroof models, but it seems that the non-sunroofs come up more frequently. Would anyone even contemplate trying to remove the sunroof from one vehicle and fit it to another? I know that there are all sorts of leaking problems with the roofs, so I presume that this is a bad idea. Any thoughts? Lastly, I don't mind getting a vehicle which needs quite a bit of work. I'd probably have it externally resprayed (if it needed it), but I would prefer not to have to strip the engine out of it to paint the engine bay. Do I therefore have to start with a like coloured car, or could I get away with spraying a grey one black, for example? I'm sure this would offend the purists, but would it completely sabotage the resale value of the car? I certainly don't want to buy a half decent car and ruin it! Your advice is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Mike Farrow
  6. after my fun with a leaky sunroof recently, its gonna get plated. Just wondering what thickness of plate people have used for theirs? I know the panel thickness isnt exactly more than wafer thin, but I was thinking about 2mm for a bit of rigidity, then bond and rivnuts? what have you lot done? (cue a pic from whoever it is that used a road sign!) cheers
