Hi guys and gals. Hope this is the right place to post this and I apologies if it’s been asked before but to save me strolling through thousands of search matches and countless pop up adds my question is as follows. I have a GTI and want to replace the REAR valance. Searching through eBay I can find a number of them, some say GTi some say standard. Is there actually a difference between the GTi and standard ones? I know the bumper is but what about the valance? Thanks for reading.

Installing GTi instrument cluster into a 1992 junior 1.1i
Harrypug posted a topic in Misc/General Technical
Hi everyone, new to the forum so I hope I’ve posted in the right place. I’ve put a GTI instrument cluster into my 1993 junior 1.1i. I’ve got everything to work that should except the rev counter. Can anyone point me in the right direction with wiring diagrams. Where does it get the signal from on my engine? It isn’t a dizzy. Is it through the ECU? Any advice would be great. Thanks! -
Hi 205'ers, I have been meaning to do this for a while having gone through the same process with my old VW camper a couple of years ago ( http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69499 ), I found it a great way of recording what I'd achieved and the help and advice received made a huge difference! I always wanted a 205 when I was a 'yoof' in the early 1990's, but (working in a Ford dealership) tended toward the blue oval (RS1600i, 2 x S1 RS Turbo, Capri Mk2... wish I still had them, I'd be well off now!). Even then I knew the Pug was a better car than the Escort, but I wouldn't admit it, even to myself. So, I stumbled on a bit of a 205 project about a year ago, a chap had started the resto but needed space for other projects (RS2000 Mk2, De Tomaso Pantera,...). It was quite local and at a price I was happy with to get me into 205 land. Basically it was: A 1.6 phase 2 from 1991, 79k with no history. (However, looking at the condition of the interior, engine and gbx internals and the body I'm as sure as you can be this is genuine) It had had a bump in 2004 and was written off Cat C - the damage was minimal and limited to the o/s/r 1/4 panel and rear bumper. The tailgate fitted was non-GTI. Engine, front suspension and interior already stripped out. Engine had been stripped, vapour blasted, all new parts (cylinder liners, bearings, gaskets) were supplied. Crank had been checked/polished and the head fully rebuilt. Gearbox not touched. Rear beam (seized), also not touched. Front suspension had been overhauled with new brakes, wheel bearings and the subframe p/coated. The shell was in good condition, tiny bit of corrosion on the n/s inner wing and boot floor needed 2 x 5cm square patches. The guy had already wire-wheeled the underside - which i was very happy about! Here she is as bought...

1.1 Correct wheels for a Mardi Gras
jeremypurkiss@gmail.com posted a topic in Misc/General Technical
I have just purchased a very nice but slightly "boyed" 1994 205 Mardi Gras reg M540 NBL 1.1L with 205 gti wheels and track tyres. It drives terrible. Does anybody know if the drive will improve by putting normal tyres on these wheels, or would it be better to find some original wheels and matching tyres ( 165/70R13 ) as well. I am told the gti wheels are worth something, as are the road legal track tyres 195/50R, maybe ! although they look pretty worn to me........ I am also trying to find an original cassette/radio for her. Any suggestions gratefully received, Jeremy (Novice) -
Hi I am in the middle of buying hubs from a 205 1.9 GTI, but I wondering how to see difference between compared to other hub that looks like the a 205 1,9 GTI. For example the Peugeot 306 hubs look quite similar, but I have heard they are not. How do I know a peugeot 205 1.9 GTI hub. I know that the Peugeot 205 1,9 GTI has 25 splines for the driveshaft and a wheel bearing in the size. wide [mm]: 36 mm Inside diameter [mm]: 42 mm Outside diameter [mm]: 82 mm Thanks for the help - Martin

Peugeot 205 1.9 8v starting issues, same old story.
Rutia posted a topic in XU 8v Engine Maintenance and Performance Upgrades
Hi guys and gals I've been having issues attempting to get my engine in fighitng shape again after sitting up for nearly two years, before sitting it up it was running until one day it was taken for a drive and all of a sudden the car lost power when stopping at a set of traffic lights, this was on an incline, however i managed to restart the engine and getting going again before coming up to another set of lights at this point the engine completely stopped responding. it was at this time we decided to sit the car to one side as winter was coming! after coming back to the project recently we changed the belt as the condition was well lets say holy and not in a religious way, belt changed and timing set as per dowels, attempted to get the engine to fire at this point and nothing, fuel and spark was checked, we have a weak wire going from the ign amp -> coil + which we then re taped to fix a lack of spark issue we had, fuel is getting to the rail and working as it should. Here's a list of things changed/checked 1. New Distributor (Mapco replacement) 2. New Tachometric relay (Old one works same) 3. New Spark plugs ( Spark getting to each plug) 4. New Coil 5. Checked Fuel pump is priming and injectors pulsing 6. New Timing belt / Timing setup ( Using dowels but also making sure head of cam aligns with TDC) 7. All fuses are present and do not seem effected by any shorts It's a 1984 1.6 converted to a 1.9 D6B Xu9ja by the previous owner so it's pretty much running a lot of original parts from the earlier models i've attached a video of the engine currently attempting to fire and this is with the throttle being fully pressed and also the distributor being full advanced on the turn (Anything but fully advanced and the engine doesn't wanna know about it)- 27 replies

Hi everyone! I'm new here I've got a phase 1 405 mi16 that I want to for lack of a better term wake it up a little more! With everything else I have to do with the car before pugfest So budget is a big thing. What I'm thinking Gti6 intake manifold with ported and polished throttle body Gti6 exhaust manifold Omex ecu Coil pack conversion. I've a couple of questions though. Will the gti6 exhaust manifold clear the firewall in a 405? What else can I do that's not to extreme? Where can I find A full wiring diagram for a phase 1 mi16. I need to tidy up the engine bay wiring and remove a few things too. As for the engine I have further plans for later this year but that's a whole other story! Thanks for reading

Okay so basically my '92 205 Gti won't start. What happens is when I get a jump start my car idles for about 10 mins but then struggles, revs go way below 1000 rpm and cuts out if you don't put the revs on yourself. After this the car won't start. Not even turn over! Yet the electrics such as Windows seem to work and the lights. So what do I do? Annoyingly I'm currently at a festival and didn't bring my multumetre so can't determine some stuff but the little colour indicator on the battery says it's fine. Any suggestions? Thanks for reading

Hi guys. Maybe you can help me. The Bosch Throttle Switch for mi 205 gti 1.9 has failed. Can you guys help me and let me know which OEM part fits and works ? I have seen a lot of ones on the market, but i need to know for sure which one of which car/make/model can be used as an OEM replacement for the original. Rear Engine Sensors Help
sebascalderon85 posted a topic in XU 8v Engine Maintenance and Performance Upgrades
Hi everybody, I looked at the rear of the engine of my 1.9 205 gti, and noticed three sensors. 1. Is the sender for the temperature gauge. 2. is for the coolant temperature sensor. 3. The third one is unplugged but the car runs fine and everything. I have a cable thats loose, but when i connect it, the oil temperature gauge goes to the top. I'm asuming thaths the earth for the oil temperature sensor or gauge. That third one if anyone knows whats it there for, i could really apreciate your help because i don't wnat it there doing nothing, it has to do something, and i'm guessing it's important. Thanks. -
Hello, The electrical work in my car is not it's best and there's a lot of loose ends here and there. But my cooling fan does not work and it makes driving in traffic unbearable. So looking at it I'm guessing this is the wire socket for the fan as it's located near the fan but is hanging freely with no clear location for it to go. So would plugging this in to it's rightful destination fix my fan issue? If so, where does it go? It is also fried so Would anyone know where I could buy another 3 pin connector like this one? Edit: the part number leads me here: http://m.eeuroparts.com/Parts/68365/...JPT-171906230/ wondering if anyone knows of a non international seller? Cheers for reading Anyway here is the picture:

Afternoon all, This is a quick and simple question for those in the know; Does the BE3 box in the 1.6 CTI use the same ratios/final drive as the 1.6 GTI box? Basically, are they the same box? I have been searching the forum, the ratios spreadsheet and various other places for a day or two and I can't seem to find a definitive answer on the subject, or any kind of answer. I've found nothing to confirm they are the same but equally nothing they confirms they are different. I've found much about the differences between the 1.9 CTI and GTI boxes but nothing regarding the 1.6. Does anyone know? Thanks guys.

Hello all, I know I've not posted enough to put this in the for sale section. I've spoken to Cybernck and he said this is fine. I have a 1.6 GTi rear beam sat at my house it's been off the car for around a year. My car is now gone so I'm giving this away to anyone that wants it. Will need to be refurbished or whatever you want to do with it. It'll only end up in the scrap so thought I could offer it to anyone to make use. My house is in the YO42 4TN postcode area. I'd prefer if you could pick up but could arrange to meet somewhere near by. Any questions feel free to ask. I think there is half a rear wheel bearing included Thanks for looking. First comes first served basis.

Standard Injectors Not Pulsing
gtiburge posted a topic in XU 8v Engine Maintenance and Performance Upgrades
hi i have very nearly finished returning my 1988 gti back to 1.9 8v from gti 6 but i seem to have a problem with the injectors both wires seem to show 12v and as i understand it one should b 12v and the other should b negative switched by the ecu to make it pulse, do the injectors get any other signals other then the ecu as it seems like something is missing ?? when i tested the injectors with a (bulb) in the end off the plug it didn't flash at all until l stop'd cranking and then at the very end it flashed once it all seems very odd dose any one no what each wire from the ecu plug dose as it would b helpful as i could then check wiring i need them identified by colors and ecu pinouts as i have no number's on my wires due to them being cut by previous bloke bodging in the gti6 engine any help much appreciated thanks olly -
Hi everyone. I decided that i want to post a topic of my cars restoration project. I bought the car in 2010 10 march. It was in very bad condition. The engine was completely taken apart and was in the trunk of the car. The car had big rust problems. And had front springs cut down half way and the rear beam was completely dead and the car was sitting almost on the ground. The previous owner had done loads of bad things to the car. The original seats and wheels where gone as well. So I decided to buy the car and wanted to restore it to it`s orogonal condition. That's how it looked like when i started to work on it. First i decided i need to start with the engine. So i bought a complete 1,9l engine. And after short time i first installed it in the car. As you can see the front end of the car is nothing but rust. Shortly after the engine was started for the first time i understood that the engine had oil problems. So the engine went straight back to it`s seller. And working on the car i understood that i need to weld new front end. So i stripped all the car and found more and more rust Taht was just the rust at the front end. The rust was also at the side skirts and rear of the car. After long period of welding. The car needed to be primed and painted. The car from factory had electric windows and central locking. Before me someone had changed the doors and had cut the wires. Since then the car had manual windows, but i knew that i will put the electric windows back in. I toed the car to the painters garage. And he did a complete respray. Except for the engine bay. The car had two colors. but i didn`t like that. I wanted it to be just red. I didn`t like the red paint that it had. It seemed to me that is too light and looked a bit pink or orange. So i found the red tone that i liked. It was the paint from volkswagen. Tornado red. In the time when the car was painted i started to work on the engine. I send the engine to my friend who is a big 205 gti fan and also a good engine builder. He helped me with the engine rebuild. The engine is standard 1,6 with a head with big valves. I had problems with the electrics in the engine compartment. I didn`t know which wires go where. And the engine didn`t run when i hooked up the wires. And there where some empty wires as well. So i got an electric to help me. He had to work pretty hard to fix some bad wires and get the car working. Sometimes i thought that this project will never end cause i always could find something broken, or something i had to redo. It was 2 years already since i started working on the car and finaly it started to look like one All this time my car had no exhaust. So i had to custom build a new one. Starting from the downpipe all the way back we welded a stainless steel exhaust 60mm in diameter with the back box from magnaflow. My plan is to finish the car till summer. Get the original recaro seats, and drive as much as i can. Sorry for my english. I hope it was interesting for you guys to read John

Hi! My name is Andreas, I'm 20 years old and I live in the middle of Norway. Currently working as car painter, Thought I'd share my project(s) with you I bought my first 205 when I was 15 years old. It was a red 1.4 XR that I spent a lot of time on, including a full respray and GTI-look. I still have it but it has been parked for 2 years now, not sure what to do about it After a while I bought my first GTI, a 1988 1.9. It also got a full respray and pretty much everything has been changed or fixed on it. I've also had two 205's for parts, both were 1.9, but one had a Mi16 in it, One of them has been scrapped so right now I have three 205's Recently I also bought a BMW E46 320d '04, but that's another story Well here's a bunch of pictures from start to beginning:

Dear All, I have a 93 1.4 GTX, and the poor girl's on her last legs. I have been looking for some time for a Phase 2 1.9 GTI to replace her with, but they seem to be few and far between in the price range I am looking at (with <110k on the clock). Unfortunately, I'm being narrow minded, and I'm looking for either a Cherry Red or a Black one; but I haven't seen very many about (and I'm a newbie on this forum, so I'm not allowed to post a 'wanted'). I have however seen plenty of Phase 1.5s about, and the current GTX has the Phase 2 lights, so I should be able to do that part of the conversion. But what about the dash and interior trim, as I do think that they look much better with the black than the grey interior? So I was wondering; how difficult would it be to strip the entire dash and interior trim out of my GTX, and put it into another vehicle? Secondly, I quite like the sunroof models, but it seems that the non-sunroofs come up more frequently. Would anyone even contemplate trying to remove the sunroof from one vehicle and fit it to another? I know that there are all sorts of leaking problems with the roofs, so I presume that this is a bad idea. Any thoughts? Lastly, I don't mind getting a vehicle which needs quite a bit of work. I'd probably have it externally resprayed (if it needed it), but I would prefer not to have to strip the engine out of it to paint the engine bay. Do I therefore have to start with a like coloured car, or could I get away with spraying a grey one black, for example? I'm sure this would offend the purists, but would it completely sabotage the resale value of the car? I certainly don't want to buy a half decent car and ruin it! Your advice is greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Mike Farrow
