    Hi All, I'm looking to replace the gear stick in my 205 GTI (late BE1) but after a days searching I can't find one for a start but also can't work out how to remove the old one. The old one was hacked a bit so the new to me original gear knob won't fit. Can they be removed from inside the car by taking out the centre console or do they pop off the long rod from underneath the car then remove from inside and slide the new stick down? I guess what I'm asking here do I need to get the rubber gaiter inside the centre console off or not. Can't find a pic anywhere without the rubber gaiter at all. Or is it best to get a quickshifter and if so will it fit the original gear knob? Thanks in advance. Phil
