Boot Carpet

Recommended Posts

miamistu

Hi, I've had no carpet in my boot for as long as I can remember and I was hoping to get a replacement one.

I seem to remember the carpet consisting of an underlay, plus a top liner which tucked underneath the rear seats, is this correct?

Can these be bought new anywhere (for a sensible price)?

Cheers :P

Yes that is correct, an underlay type thing covered with a rubber-ish liner (wow im good at explaining!)

Im sure you can get them from pug but no idea how much, somewhere like autofive might do them?

Failing that you could always make one, I have a roll of underlay and i'm sure it cant be hard to find some suitable liner.

EDIT: you can indeed get it from pug, but it is rather over priced as expected! Sound proofing is £50 and the liner is £60.

Do the proper ones have clips to hold them down?

Mine came with the manky plastic one, I swapped it for a carpet one from a Saxo, fits nicely after I trimmed it a touch!

I think there meant to have some kind of clip ? Isnt there a white plastic insert either side of the boot floor ? I think thats something to do with the carpet.

Mine was rancid. So i didtched it. Sound deadend the floor, then made a false floor and carpeted it.

Could someone tell me what part number the sound proofing/underlay is for a 1990 GTi please?

I've only just discovered that it's possible to access ServiceBox online (doh!) but I can't seem to find this part. Or at least I hope I can't as the one I found is over 100 quid just for the one part!

I bought a cheap piece of black carpet from a local small retailer, used the manly old mat as a template and made a new carpet. I pierced a small hole each side to allow the White securing plugs to be used and from memory I used some spare underlay underneath. Hardly concours or original bit looked the biz.

Will do the one on my new car once some of the other jobs are finished.

That's a nice idea Andy. Could do with some carpet so can put a boot tidy in.

Still need that part number for the underlay if anyone has it.
