Cambelt Casing

Recommended Posts

bill

i've left my 205 mi16 with a local garage for a few things to be done, i also dropped off the cambelt casing/cover to be fitted, only to be told it doesn't fit on an mi16 engine when its in a 205, i'm pretty sure he's wrong just after some confirmation, i get the impression it might be a tight fit or something and he cant really be arsed doing it, but in all fairness i need/want it on soon as, as i'm planning some trackdays asap, get the feeling i might end up going to a pug place for it to be done in the end :D:)

It can be fitted yes, is tight though, especially if using standard brake master cylinder/servo.

that explains his doubt then in fitting it, do many people run without them? is it not a bit risky?

They do fit mate, and yes they are a twat to get back on, especially if you're running a standard fuel filter.

Sounds like he's just being a bit lazy :)

It definately fits, but you'll likely need to move the fuel filter to one side to get it on (and even then it's still a bit fiddly) - it's certainly not a job that I enjoy, put it that way.

I would advise against leaving it off, seen and heard of many an engine that has met a premature end from getting something caught in there.

I'm sure most people that were at Pugfest a few years back will remember what happened to Darren Spooner's 309, but lets just say that it involved a gravel trap, an Mi16 without cambelt covers, and the distinct sound of no compression shortly afterwards...

My 406 has no cambelt cover can only assume the last owner couldnt be botherd to fit it when he changed the belt :)

A mate of mine had a 306 which got a stone in the timing belt and it slipped and that was with the cover on
