Remote Cenral Locking On Mk4 Golf

Recommended Posts

M@tt

I bought the wife a MK4 golf for xmas but theres a few little things that are niggling me about it.

It's got a different drivers door lock key to the rest of the car and also there is no remote central locking on it and the missus carries a bunch of keys/accessories around the that would put a school caretaker's to shame so the door and boot are quickly going to get scratched to s*ite because she won't take care when opening or closing the doors/boot.

So i'd like to fit it with a remote cetral locking kit so that she can open/close the car without having to use the key.

So the options are

i) fit one of those cheapish aftermarket remote central locking kits with an additional fob

or

ii) Get a replacement mk4 single key lockset from a model which includes remote central locking built into the key and all the associated wiring/wireless receiver etc.

So i guess my questions are

i) Has anyone used one of those after market kits? if so any good and any particular recommendations?

ii) any idea on how complicated it would be to fit one of these OE kits? is going to be a dash out to rewire the whole thing or is the receiver built into the ecu etc

Cheers

Richie-Van-GTi

The mk4 gold stuff Ive sold has looked to be a nightmare, mainly as the door solenoids are part of the mechanisms and are also integrated with various other electronics. I would expect to be fitting a new fusebox and most of the chassis loom if your going to be putting OE parts in. Probably much easier to fit a good quality aftermarket alarm/immbiliser that will operate an aftermarket kit. Keeps everything on one button that way.

yeah thats what i was afraid of Richie also OE stuff i think would cost an arm and a leg.

My only hope with the OE stuff was that it would all be nice and factory looking with a single all in one key but its no biggie. I think i might even be able to get another lock to match the others from the mainstealers if you proide a vin number.
