I've got the bit off from underneath the steering wheel and can see the matrix housing but how do i get to it?

i have removed all the screws and bolts etc that i can see around the whole of the lower part of the dashboard and i still cant get to it!

am i missing something vitally important here?

Possibly the 2 8mm nuts in the console stowage compartment or the screws under the top cowl where the coin tray is (Yup, you have to have that one off, too (or at least loose enough to get to the screws hidden underneath!!)

I think you have to take off the gear surround/lower dash/upper dash (clock surround)/ and the two bits surrounding the steering wheel. Then find the rest of the bolts to take the dash out (theres a couple on the bulk head engine side, and 1 long one through the middle underneath the little 'triangle' bit.

Correct me any one if i'm wrong

ok iv just found the haynes manual and it says i need to remove the instrument panel and lower the steering coloumn - is this really neccesary or just creating more work for no gain?

probably the quickest way because the heater matrix is in the heater unit, this may be bolted to the bulkhead, the matrix is located under a plastic cover with 2/3 metal clips in the middle

i went with Haynes when i did mine and removed the dashboard - you don't need to though and i wish i'd known before starting as needlessly removing the dash for the first time wasn't all that much fun

it's fiddly as there's not much room but it is possible to do it just by removing the lower dash panels so that you can actually get at the matrix and its fixings

do you mean the section that is underneath and around the steering wheel or also that bit which goes underneath the stereo and around where the gearstick is? cos that bit is not shifting

i've given up for today anyways cos its gotten to dark - damn winter grrrr

anybody have any idea how much I'd get charged if i took it to a garage and got them to do it for me? lol

Remove the bottom bit of dash(under steering wheel), undo a couple of bolts holding the pipes to the matrix, slide the pipes back in to the engine bay, remove a couple of screws holding the matrix in and slide out.

About 15mins work
