Longitudinal Engine Rwd 205

if some one know somebody made this coversion to set the engine in front longitudinaly and the gear box at the rear end inorder to make 50 - 50 weight distribution rear wheel drive car .....

 

the suggested engine is mi16 turbo or ES9j4 3.0L V6. and the gear box from subaru or vw passat or audi A4 or renault or E30 (gear box and differential).

 

this arrangment will provide enough space for turbo system even biturbo for the V6 engine with the traction availability of the RWD cars.

 

i think the rear suspension would be adaptation of another rwd cars such as BMW E30 or subaru AWD.

 

need oipinions and advises :blush: .

quite a few people have done something along these lines already, Cybernk for one with his twin engined 205!

 

there is a Twin V6 engined 205 (though that one has disappeared from the internet for some reason?!) a well known 206 built by pug1off.

 

a Lad in Lancashire is building a 106 with a 406 V6 in it.

 

 

an of course renault built the Clio V6 with the VERY similar V6 to the Peugeot one...

Front engine RWD is not easy. It's something I've been wanting to do for years with a 309, but to do it retaining much of the shell and the front suspension/steering design is a packaging nightmare. Either you'll need to essential use the bulk of chassis components from another car or work from scratch, which is a huge task!

The 205's rear axle line is a long way back and so getting 50-50 without virtually ballasting it will be practically impossible.

The Audi/Subaru gearboxes have front diffs mounted in them and are very heavy and bulky as a result, although one of the closest packages I've tried designing in, would be the Subaru 4cyl or 6 cyl and gearbox with the transfer and front diff assemblies deleted. The flat engines could be potentially fit the existing front suspension better than traditional upright engines.

There was a very nicely put together front engine'd RWD 205 with a bike engine at Combe not long back. The usual bike engine in saloon problem though, all revs and no grunt, it was cornering well and getting nailed on the straights.

may be 55 - 45 using the overhang effect of being the audi or subaru gearbox behind the rear axle.

Hi Hassan, there is a car with the very layout you seek, engine in front and gearbox at the rear, its the Alfa Romeo GTV series from a few years back.

Not fully sure of all the engine options but mainly twin cam 4 cyls and maybe the V6.

The good thing is that the gearbox/transaxle unit( which also houses the clutch) and rear suspension could be grafted into the rear of the car on a suitably made spaceframe which can be incorporated into a roll cage.

At the front, new box section chassis rails welded in and a Talbot Sunbeam front xmember can be bolted in complete with suspension( redrilling the strut top mounts of the inner wings) and steering rack. I guess the good old Escort MK2 xmember and steering would fit too.

If you got hold of a complete donor car you will have all the wiring looms, instruments etc to play with plus a steering column.

How do I know this can be done? Well I did most of this very conversion on a Talbot Samba many years ago. I never finished it due to various reasons like lack of money,time and losing my workshop, so I ended up scrapping it but it would have made a terrific competition car.

Another donor car I just thought about is the Porsche 924/944/968 series, same configuration, 944 Turbo would make for one very quick 205.

 

Theres a lot of work to do but if you are capable of carrying it out you will have a truly unique car, good luck my friend.

early porsche would be quite simple in terms of management as they are very basic mechanical injection and metering units. I would steer clear of the alfa engine though, highly prone to bending cranks.

Hi Richie, I was led to believe the Alfa lumps were near on unburstable with steel cranks etc, particularly the 1750 over the 2.0 litre. A mate of mine rallied one in a Sunbeam and never had a problem.

i realy want to made some thing near the porsche models you talk about but its so diffecult ..... i will try after i buy another car to be my day to day use the tring with my hotty pug...
