driversdomainuk 8 Posted December 29, 2008 Hi Guys, ARB Rod Bolts - rebuilding engine and have been told buy sone. However, can't find any under 86 pounds. Anyone know who could provide them and are they worth the money at this price (car used for hill climbing) If anyone is interested, would consider offering 12 months free advertising on webpage: http://www.driversdomainuk.com/motorsport/...project-2.shtml for supplying these at may be a reduced rate....(or free ) Cheers Rob

Cameron 16 Posted December 29, 2008 £86 is a small price to pay really when you consider the benefits.
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted December 29, 2008 Yep. Standard replacements are just over £40 the set, so these are not expensive when you consider the quality.
projectpug 0 Posted December 29, 2008 Some ARP ones on ebay now 99p start. Hope this helps Phil
ifcho 0 Posted December 29, 2008 can someone please explain what is the benefit of having these, over the OE ones?
welshpug 1,661 Posted December 29, 2008 far higher tensile strength than original items.
ifcho 0 Posted December 29, 2008 well, oK, but how do I know whether I need higher tensile strength bolts? Are they needed when you go high RPMs for example? (and what is considered high) for example, could this damage be caused by the rod bolts? :-/ http://gallery.ifcho.net//cache_big/205GTI...en/STA50062.JPG http://gallery.ifcho.net//cache_big/205GTI...en/STA50059.JPG
jplautomotive 0 Posted December 29, 2008 i would say not the cause of the pics looks more like oil starve arp bolts are stronger so yeah suppose it can make it stronger at high revs it is some thing i would do as matter of course if redoing bottom end jonny
Mikey S 29 1 Cars Posted December 29, 2008 (edited) well, oK, but how do I know whether I need higher tensile strength bolts? Are they needed when you go high RPMs for example? ifcho 0 Posted December 29, 2008 I think that this was the result of oil starvation/too high oil temperatures as well...I gave the pics just as an example. So I will go and order some for me now....I'm running the 1.6 GTI engine to 7 500 most of the time (on tracks)...
Cameron 16 Posted December 30, 2008 Yeah pic looks like a spun bearing. ARP bolts are only really needed if you're using prolonged high revs - eg track use.
Anthony 1,003 Posted December 30, 2008 Rally Design were the cheapest by a fair margin when I bought some a couple of years back - no idea if that's still the case. They're listed as 306 btw. (PS. It's ARP rod bolts rather than ARB - I've edited the title to reflect that)

I guess 86 quid is not that bad when you consider the advantages - its just to me they look like some bolts you would buy from B&Q for 5 quid - how wrong I can be!! Anthony 1,003 Posted December 30, 2008 From memory, Rally Design were around £55 (probably plus VAT) for the bolts, but as said, that was a couple of years back.
