jamiej 0 Posted December 28, 2008 Good Morning, Can anyone recommend a good jjump starter that they would recommend buying. I want to spend about £50 and want it to be capable of starting my 1.9 (obviously) Any idea/recommendations/comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jamie
welshpug 1,657 Posted December 28, 2008 a spare battery from the scrappie off a large diesel motor and a set of jump leads is the most cost effective option
jamiej 0 Posted December 28, 2008 Really like the idea of the jump starter rather than another battery with jump leads. There is one from Halfords Called Dynamic Jump Starter, does anyone has any experience with this ? Its £49.99 but may be able to get it a bit cheaper on trade . omega 82 Posted December 28, 2008 if u mean those plastic jump start things make sure the battery is 900 amps as anything smaller will struggle to start a flat battery
Redtop 14 2 Cars Posted December 28, 2008 Or you could just buy a c-tec charger. It's like a small trickle charger that you can leave on the car all the time if you want. Good if you don't drive the car everyday. It charges the battery but does it in cycles and never damages it. The worst thing you can do is let a battery go flat or keep it on the ground. Well worth an investment and I think there are a couple of models below £50:). Demon tweeks or the likes do them iirc.
omega 82 Posted December 28, 2008 or go to maplins buy a solar charger for about 15 quid ,or buy a motor cycle charger that keeps the battery charged
philfingers 5 Posted December 29, 2008 solar charger in my experince are useless. I used to work away month on month off and i tried a solar charger in my A6 2.5 TDi. normally it would start but always turned off slowly as it had sat for a month. After the solar charger was plugged in for the month it was completely flat, this was at the height of summer and it sat on top of the dash. Cheap trickle chargers can be had from Aldi and Lidl sometimes. I have the an Optimate, C-Tek and the cheap £10 one from Aldi and there's not much to choose between them, other than £30! Back to original question, never used Jump Start Box, Booster Box. I use a spare car battery and a really good set of commerical (HGV) leads
