Mac210882 0 Posted December 20, 2008 Hi I've recently had a GTi6 conversion done on my 205. When driving it home I noticed that when coming to a standstill there would be a lot of blue oil burning smoke filtering out from under the bonnet. It's lost a lot of oil since then and I have spent a bit of time under the car trying to find out where it is coming from. Today, I've had the car running with the bonnet open to try and see where abouts the oil was coming from and I spotted that the oil filler cap wasn't making a proper seal. I think that's where the oil leak is coming from as even on idle, it's bubbling a bit around the edges, and when I rev the car it makes it even worse. It then seeps over the cam cover, down the back of the engine, all over the exhaust manifold and burns away and stinks. So, I have a couple of questions for the forum - could it be as simple as the oil filler cap isn't making a seal around the cam cover, and the oil is bubbling through when the engine is running? If so, does anyone have a parts CD that can get me the part number of the oil filler cap so I can get down to Peugeot and buy a new one? Or Could it be something a little more sinister that is causing an excess pressure within the cam cover area that is forcing the oil around the cap as it is effectively the 'weak spot' in the area? The engine seems to be holding good oil pressure, it seems to drive OK, and there's just a little bit of blue smoke from the exhaust that I'm hoping might be leftover from my dead Mi16... Any suggestions guys? Cheers Iain
welshpug 1,677 Posted December 20, 2008 (edited) Just use servicebox for original parts, there's a stickied thread by GLPoomobile about using it. I would start by replacing the cap as its pretty cheap and normally stocked, 0258 49, used on the XU7J4 and 10J4R and RS, and the TU5J4 in the 106. £4.45 inc vat. alsom, if its spilling down onto the exhaust that wont be the filler cap leaking, it'll be the rear cam cover seal leaking, you can't buy the seals separately though. Peetypug 5 Posted December 20, 2008 make sure none of the oil breathers are blocked I had a 16v engine doing this on me, it turned out one of the breathers was blocked, it was the pipe from the head to the inlet manifold Try taking them off one at a time
Mac210882 0 Posted December 22, 2008 10 points for sorrentopete! Turns out it was a kink in the pipework from the cam cover to the oil catch tank. I pulled off that pipe and sure enough the oil stopped bubbling over. Putting my thumb back over it again had similar results after a minute or so, the pressure build up causing the oil cap to bubble over, releasing my thumb gave a huge ppppssttttttt and release of pressure. Just need to find a better way of routing the pipe and use some proper 90 degree joins rather than letting the pipe kink. Problem solved! Cheers guys!
