bill 0 Posted December 20, 2008 going to get some harnesses in the new year, whats the crack with them, ie 3 point, 4 point, 6 point does it matter which you get, does it depend on your seat? is there a particular one thats better than the others?
welshpug 1,657 Posted December 20, 2008 6 point is by far the best, you will need a seat with an appropriate aperture in the base for the lower 2 straps. 3 and 4 point are IMO worse than a standard lap belt, I've heard of many injuries sustained in heavy front impacts when using them but none about 6 points, I feel far more secure in them (I have been in several rolls using 4 points!) swordfish210 20 Posted December 20, 2008 I've got some Luke 5 points in mine (3 inch FIA jobbies) and they're very good, and a damm site cheaper than the Willans ones i was looking at. I've also got the Sparco Sprint V seats.
Baz 421 Posted December 20, 2008 I'd be more worried about 2 or 3".
omega 82 Posted December 20, 2008 6 is the way to go but they do cost more
bren_1.3 1 Posted December 21, 2008 (edited) 6 point 3" harnesses can be had for less than £100 if you look in the right places. brand new aswell. i bought mine off ebay for circa £80 dated till 2012 made by SRS.. EDIT: ive got my eye on a pair that are compatible with HANS devices that are still £30 apiece with a day to go! Edited December 21, 2008 by bren_1.
bill 0 Posted December 22, 2008 cheers for the replys, first thing i'd best do is dig out my bucket seats and see what harnesses they'll take
Baz 421 Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) Ricco-racing.com are pretty unbeatable, and great quality with nice alloy quick-adjusters too. Edited December 22, 2008 by Baz
Spiky 37 Posted December 26, 2008 i got 6 and 3", i went for 3" as i broke my collar bone a few years back (football) and found 2" digs in a bit when tight i went for 6, for safety, 5 or 6 would be a good choice and i dont rate the seat belt type one's , not becuase they not safe, but just becuase they are a pain in the arse to get in and out of
Jrod 7 Posted December 27, 2008 Always 3" straps, NEVER 3 point.
omega 82 Posted December 27, 2008 also check the width of the straps the wider the better as it spreads the load, just make sure they not to wide for your shoulders if you are a small bloke as they can slip
jackherer 543 Posted December 27, 2008 My mate crashed his 205 at Brands, the driver had 3 inch harnesses and was fine, the passenger had 2 inch harnesses and was off work for a week with bruising from the harnesses on his shoulders.
