Stephen W 12 1 Cars Posted December 19, 2008 Hi i have a large leak from the sump on my 89 1.9 gti, and before i take the sump off can any one tell me what type of gasket they use? Kennyb 0 Posted December 19, 2008 yep thick paper type...not to expensive......you also want some sealent.......between spacer and block.........gasket is for between spacer and sump ;-) some people just use sealent for both....but i say why make a gasket if not needed???? marksorrento205 80 Posted December 22, 2008 (edited) Personally I use two, one for the sump > spacer and one for the spacer > block. Just need to punch 2 holes for the locating dowls for the latter. I dont like the thought of squeezed out sealent breaking off and getting sucked up by the oil pump and blocking the stainer. But thats my opinion only.
