yorkshirekowboy 19 1 Cars Posted December 18, 2008 now then, just a quick question the front 1.6 compensator, the 12mm end and the 10mm end. which size is fed from the MC? the reason i ask this as at the mo, i have a 1.6 beam on, but i took the compensator off, but now going onto disks, i think i should maybe put the 1.6 front one back on. pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted December 19, 2008 The compensator in the engine bay on a 1.6 GTi is for the rear brakes, the fronts have no restriction except the pressure of your foot on the pedal. Don't they have an arrow showing direction of fluid flow through them stamped on the side? If not from looking at the diagram in older Haynes, the narrower end of the body is the outlet, the input from the mc is the lower union when its fitted to the mounting bracket. Graham. yorkshirekowboy 19 1 Cars Posted December 24, 2008 well been looking at this compensator, and to my suprise both are 10mm feeds, not 12, 10mm. by reading it looks like that the 22 degree angle is important. to me it looks like the fat end feeds the MC, and the smaller stepped end feeds the rears. Yes that's right big end connects the MC and stepped rear brakes (drums or disc what ever you have at the back ..) , and it must be fitted at this precise angle on the inner wing ... pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted December 25, 2008 it must be fitted at this precise angle on the inner wing ... Which the standard mounting bracket does when mounted to the inner chassis rail / wing in its original location. Adjusting the angle changes the flow restriction to the rear brakes, I'm not exactly sure but I think if you turn the body so the narrower end is higher there is more restriction or sit it closer to horisontal, less restriction. DamirGTI 342 Posted December 25, 2008 (edited) I remember reading something about re-angeling these 1.6 compensators and there was also a cut out picture of this 1.6 compensator but i simply can't remember where did i see/read about that .. might be here but for sure at least 4years ago , or somewhere else on some French , Netherlands or Denmark pug forum ..
