Brown Multiplug - Red And Yellow Wires?

Recommended Posts

vicious-monkey87

ok so i started to cut the wires to the multiplug and solder them together today.

as i was working through the wires i noticed that two of them were not connected to anything.

can anyone tell me where these need to go?

also, today i discovered that i suck at soldering, which is strange, because i seem to recall being good at it a few years ago! it took me ages to solder the connections together and even then, i'm not sure how much i trust the connections. i may have to get a friend to redo them for me just to be sure

You probably don't suck at soldering, you're probably just making the mistake of trying to solder corroded wire together. I did that when I first chopped out one of those plugs.

Is the copper wire all black and dirty looking? You need to chop a bit off at a time until you get back to fresh, shiny copper wire.

Yes soldering isnt easy when the wires are old/corroded and often contaminated with oil. You will find its very hard to get the solder to take to the wires.

The red and yellow wires are the coolant/water wires and also you will find them if you look behind the dizzy to the left of it.

ah that might explain the problems lol the wires did look a bit dirty although i cleaned them with a wire brush!

i'll try again tomorrow then

are the coolant/water wires hard to get to? to replace them? i looked behind the block but couldn't see anything!

looking at the pictures, it would appear that the wires have been cut and then a kink cut in them, as if to strip the ends? i'm wondering if the previous owner cut them but i can't think why he would have?

Very easy to get to and see, You will need a connector soldered/crimped onto the ends, the red wire goes to the right hand side and the yellow goes to the left. This is looking at things from above and from the front of the engine.

If you are still having problems i will take a pic and send it to you.

flux?

It's a fluid you put on wires that evaporates as its heated and helps draw the solder into the wires, giving a good joint (man). It's a realy nightmare soldering without it in my option, especially with this lead free crap they're using nowadays.
