Starter Not Working

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I've been trying to get my Mi16 to fire for the last month, and when i got a new ECU to see if mine was packed up, my car stopped turning by the key!!

It was working fine till last week, but now its completely dead - no clicking or huming sounds from it at all. I directly connected the spade to the 12v feed, and the starter turns then. I've cleaned all the multiplugs and reconnected them all still nothing. I have checked for continuity from the spade connection on the starter to the fuse box and everything is fine.

As a check i connected a bulb to the brown multiplug under the AFM and turned the key and there seems to be no power there. So i've got a fault somewhere under the dash. I had a look at the wiring diags in the haynes manual and have traced the blue wire from the multiplugs to the fuse box, but (correct me if i'm wrong please) can't find the '+D' lettered wire going to the ignition switch!

In the fuse box, can anyone please point out to me the route of the wiring - in from the ignition switch and out to the brown multiplug? Does it go through one of the relays at all..?If so can someone point out to me which one it is...?

Any other advice appreciated. Thanks

Jas

Wire D+ comes from the ignition switch,. to the fusebox plug BA pin 3, and out at plug D pin 1 on wire number 46.

Ok i went through the forum and found a diagram of the fuse box. Managed to narrow down the wires leading to the starter. Found the blue wire 4 going to the starter and the wire 32 coming from the ignition switch. When i bridge them, the starter turns.

Does that sound like a knackered relay? Is there a relay connected to the starter circuit anyway..? Because if i bridged the 2 wires on the same plug and it connected up the starter without the key, then i imagine that the connection form the key just activates a relay in the fuse box..!

Any idea which one it is..?

no there is no relay, wire 4 does go to the ECU from the solenoid wire 46.

wire 32 goes to the instrument cluster from the Fuse box, 32A goes to the Tachymetric relay from pin 2 of plug E

Since I've done a mi16 conversion, the tachymetric relay is out. Any ideas where i should be looking mate...really baffled by this..!!

Hey everyone,

Found the problem. Worked backwards and found out the alarm had immobilised the car. I had spoken to a Cobra alarms dealer and he told me that keying off the siren would disable the full alarm - which isnt true. I had to remove everything physically as my key fob was knackered, and the starters working again. Will fit in another newer one once i get everything running.

Thanks for your help..
