carbers205 1 Posted December 11, 2008 Guys Im just checking my valve clearances today as my engine sounds really tappy when first fired up. This was all rebuilt 3000 miles ago so Im not overly impressed, though I have had a leak from my rocker cover gasket from time, and I cant seem to fix it. This is on a 2.0 8v head btw, so exactly the same setup as the 1.9 8v. Anyway, will having a bit of oil between the camshaft and the buckets make much difference to my readings? I dont imagine they will be too far out. They are pretty much all reading tight, one of my friends suggested that it was due to the valves bedding in after being reground during the build. Would tightness cause the tapping from cold? Cheers Andy
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted December 11, 2008 If its only on start up, could be due to the quality of your oil?
carbers205 1 Posted December 11, 2008 The oil is a little wank but I am running a couple of other cars on it without problems. I have 4 valves which are more than .05mm out so Ill be changing them anyway I think.
