Exhaust Choices For A Gti6

Recommended Posts

nick9one1

Ive now nearly finished my gti6 conversion but it is very loud! I dont think the exhaust is standard as it was pretty loud with the 1.9 in too. My question is what do people think is the best exhaust for the gti6? obviously the gti6 manifold is very free flowing and i dont want to restrict this with a standard 1.9 exhaust (would this be the case?) so I was thinking of aftermarket exhausts, but that usually means lots more noise!

any ideas?

that certainly isn't a standard one!

standard later 2 piece exhaust should be sufficient, they are a larger diameter than the early systems.

one aftermarket exhaust that is high quality, proven in motorsport (i.e meets noise regs and performs) is a DES-developments system.

I just used a scorpion 8v mid and tail section and made my own downpipe, doesnt seem to be any issues with it really.

Whatever you do, don't use a Peugeot sport Group N. They're cheap, but false economy as they last no time, break very easily and are very restrictive on anything other than the 1.4 or 1.6. Mine's going in the bin as soon as possible.

i run a std one for ages

now i run a magnex

the std one sounds mad due to small tail pipe exit

I run a scorpion on mine with a modified gti6 devil decat, i get quite abit of resonance at around 3.5k... (does anyone else get this?)

I have been told that if i wrap the downpipe it may stop it.

But yes the exhaust fits perfectly, all i needed to do was extend the decat slightly and angle the manifold flange, ive done 10k and its still sealing tight.

You need at least a 2" system, I know allot of aftermarket ones (Magnex etc) are only 1" 1/2 or 1" 3/4's which doesn't help power, Janspeed where about the few companies that made a 2" system before Pug did

well i really want a quiet ish one. so magnex etc are out. the 205 mk2 is 2" so thats an option. or is there anychance of fitting a gti6 one to the 205 i know it might be a bit long but it could be chopped down?

precisely why I suggested a DES-developments system, they do one large enough but quiet enough for you.

std modified downpipe with magnex from downpipe back

rememeber mine is a ful blown track car and i need to adhere to sounds tests (strict one's)

91 db is very quiet. My 8v on webers with a magnex 4-1 and omp exhaust grp N makes 98 db at 4500 rpm and i wouldn't say thats very loud to be honest.

Have you made your dessision yet?

You have to use different inches for your exhaust, I would say 2 1/4" for by your manifold. After the first muffler you van use 2 inch, because the gasses in your exhaust are colder then when they leave your manifold. If you use 2 1/4" all the way it will take the flow in your exhaust away and it will produce a lot more of noise.

I drive around in a 205GTI16 and made this typ of exhaust for my car it works perfect, a colleague of mine made this set-up for my friend his car a 205GTI-6 an he loves it  , but still he lost in germany when we did a nice sprint :D:D

greetings,

Eric

Ja 91dB is pretty quiet, would say that was too quiet. :)

Remember dB is a log scale so even 80dB is still quite quiet, over about 95dB it starts shooting upwards. A couple of examples, a BMW road car we had in was about 95dB and was really quiet, the loudest thing I've seen so far was a Bizzarini Le Mans classic last week and that was insanely loud at 105dB!

I'm using a magnex system on my gti-6 conversion with a modified standard downpipe. The car is stripped out and i don't find the exhaust intrusive at all, like spiky says, the induction noise definitely overules it on full chat!

Magnex are only 1 1/2" thou aren;t they so not really suitable,

Mine's 2 1/2" inch all the way from the manifold, No point of going any bigger as the manifold's only 2 1/2" in Dia

Miles you sure the Magnex systems are only 38mm? I had the 3 piece system with standard style downpipe not the 4 branch, it now resides on my wifes car and im sure it was 50mm as I made a straight through mid section from tube I still have in the garage. I dont remember seeing it reduce in diameter anywhere other than the end of the downpipe. Ill have to pop a vernier on it next time I remember.

i did my centre section on my mi16 today with a straight through pipe and and magnex rearbox and i used a 48mm clamp so i would say its gotta be about 46mm id.

My Scorpion system fits over the standard gti6 downpipe flange so I assume its the same diameter as a standard gti6 one.

Its also the same diameter as the standard 306 Xsi system I have in the shed at home :)

I have a video somewhere of the sound ill pop it up if i can find it.
