Can No Longer Get Main Beam

for some reason the switch allowing me to change from dipped to main has died i can use main when the lights are off but not when they are on. is this just the stalk or something else?? and is it much of a job to fit a new one?

this happened to mine . replacing the stalk did the trick

Check and clean the earth block by each headlight
