Oil Temp Sender.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, doing a lot on my 1.6 at the mo, one question for anyone, is the oil temp sensor supposed to be in the sump? mine doesn't work, but I have found a wire which is probably the one, but the sump has no sensor in!!!!!

Yes, the oil temp sender is in the back of the sump.

A friend had a new sump fitted to his car a few years ago & the garage didn't swap the sender across so he has the same thing as you. A spare wire (which they tucked nicely out of the way) & an oil temp guage that doesn't work. :)

I keep telling him to take it back there & say he wats it fixing but he's to mild mannered for that.

Thanks for that Graham, I will possibly just buy a sensor, and drill and tap the sump.

What engine is in your car?

If its just had a replacement sump of the correct type there is probably just be a drain plug fitted where the temp sender fits.

If its got the wrong sump it'll probably be cheaper to find the corect sump instead of drilling & welding the correct threaded nut inside the sump so you can fit one.

It's a 1.6 gti(91) there is only a hole for a drain plug on the sump nothing else. I could do the hole myself, no problem, I am a teacher at a FE college in the engineering department. But if someone has a sump cheap enough!

Isn't there a drain plug in the back of the sump? (not underneath)

If not then you car has had at least a new sump fitted.

I should have a spare sump for a 1.6 but it won't have a sender in. Thread is there but sender swapped to my 1.9 sump.

Yes the plug is in the bottom, how much do you want for it? including P&P

But is there a hole on the back of the sump that is filled with a blanking plug? You need to know this to determine if you need a new sump or just a sensor?

No there isn't a blocked hole, but like said if no-one has one i will just buy a sensor, and fit it to my sump.

I've got a sump but it'll need an oil temp sender from Peugeot, part # 0242.50.

I'll find it later today or tomorrow & be in touch.
