madspikes 41 1 Cars Posted November 24, 2008 I have the engine out of the pug and sat on a stand. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on removing the head bolts. The last two engines of mine which have had the heads removed, one of the bolts have snapped during the process (once by myself, once by a mechanic). I was wondering if anyone had any tips on avoiding this? And also removing the bolts while the engine is on the stand and not in the car. Project update. For anyone following my project... Progress has ground to a halt on the 8v supercharged pug as the wife insists I finish the bathroom before doing anymore to the pug! Mad.

dcc 855 Posted November 24, 2008 When i took my headbolts off the 8v, i tightened them slightly, very slightly, then untightened them all. i found they all were alot easier to do this way.
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted November 24, 2008 I spray the "ends" up the end of the tapped holes in the block, and then buzz them out with the windy gun! This way the impact helps to loosen them without putting enough torque into them to shear them if they are seized.
