DamirGTI 342 Posted November 22, 2008 (edited) Wheres the difference in between these two ? As far as im aware wash primers are acid based (known as "etch" primers) but what about these shop primers ? are they zinc/red oxide based ?! (i've heard that "shop primers" are suitable for welding .. like weldable primers ..) Damir Edited November 22, 2008 by DamirGTI
Paintguy 0 Posted November 23, 2008 Well you're right about wash primer, and it's generally quite thin so often needs some kind of high build primer over it, but I've never heard of shop primer I'm afraid.
MerlinGTI 3 Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) Im guessing a 'shop' primer is what panel beaters use on the inside edges of oposing panels before spot welding them together. Also known as 'weld through primer' it has a high zinc content and as the name suggests you can apply it and then weld! DamirGTI 342 Posted November 23, 2008 Found some info for that "shop primer" : http://www.acepent.com/hempel/issue-06/ind...id=50&auth= .. if it is like they says about it , then it might be used as an weld trough primer .. (might just be different product trade name ) Damir
