so ill try figure it out over the weekend,

hopfully soon have an answer to can a 2.1 run on a 1.9 pump thoe

Seem like you're working faster than me :P

Still will be interesting to see if the rear water inlet on the 2.1 will foul anything in the 205 bay....

Any pictures of your pump ?

well had an hour on it today and changed the pump for the 306 one that only has one plug.

wired it in to the stock loom and just ran a + from batery to pump.

after a bit of fiddiling with it it started. woo hoo

so yes the 2.1 will run on the 1.9 pump. not sure how well as yet as i just got it going gave it a few revs and switched it off as theres no water in it etc.

but had no inlet mainifold on it and stuff so not exactly perfect set up, but im confident enough to drop it in the 205 and fidddle with it when its in there and i can drive it about too.

just thout id update

got the engine out today and put up on the crane for a quick look around it,

im not sure how much of a problem the rear water housing will be tbh, looks about the same size as the 205 xud9

think im going to have to replace a seal or two as theres a bit of oil on the back of the engine,

ill be blanking of the egr and turning the boost up on the turbo a wee bit before it goes in the stdt, but have a 205 with no engine in that i could dummy fit it in to see if the water housing hits or not.

ill start taking pics and do a " car works" thread when it starts going in the 205

Seem good

I finished the last IC piping on the 405 2.1 TD this night, hope I can give a report on how it drives in not too long time now.

mmm now i see what you mean about the water pump and housing. its a tad big.

ok anyway,

im going to remove the orrible! egr system.

can i just remove this whole bit and blank it off?

egrul2.th.jpg

i just usualy unplug the egr but want to do it properly on this car.

apart from that got the box off and looks to be fairly straight forward considering.

got a few seals to change on it i think as its a bit oily on the back of the block

Yup, just make a blanking plate and bolt it in place of the whole EGR valve.

Also need to weld up the inlet manifold.

I was thinking of getting it proper aluminium welded, but I ended up with making a circular plate that fitted onto the EGR flange and just MIG welded it to the EGR takeoff which seem to be weldable steel :)

Also remember to change the lower engine mount bracet to fit BE box and driveshafts, but guess you already knew that :)

But yes.. the waterhousing is big, hopefully it will not foul the subframe on the 205.

Welded up EGR flange on inlet, and painted..

I know im a bit late getting in on this thread but a friend of mine who works at a local Pug dealer has put one of these in a 205 and to put it mildley it is BLOODY RAPID,you will have loads of fun in this. The motor looks very squashed but it does go.

Ill be keeping up to date with this thread,

Good work

looks good chap.

is your inlet all alloy?

mine is lower half alloy, and top half inc plenum plastic.

where the join in seems to be leaking a lot of oil. prob due to egr valve.

ive not looked at the botom mount yet but will do now lol

i just need to find a flywheel and clutch to go with my 306 td box i have for it.

then i can drop it in the shell and see what hits what.

Yes inlet is alloy... one of the oldes engines this.. I think they started making lots of plastic inlets later on..

Guess you might have to find another way of blocking EGR on inlet manifold then.

Just take engine mount (lower) from a GTi engine or Mi16 or whatever really, just a XU engine with BE gearbox is good.

well droped it in today

the water housing is not a problem, loads of clearence.

the turbo down pipe on the other hand, . . . .

well it rests on the gear linkage "l" bracket and sits well up on the bulkhead

see my works thread for pics

I will just continue a little bit in this thread.

Engine started today, well there is a problem as the revs when I apply throttle did not really go very high

Guess this probably is due to new linkage is mounted in the wrong position.

Other than that, how does the rev-counter work on the diesel ?

The 1.9 TD block had a sensor at the side of the block, this mounting hole was not present on the XU11D engine.

However when sat in the 605 it had a TDC sensor in gearbox. (also 3 pin plug, same as other sensor from 1.9 engine).

I tried mounting this TDC sensor in the gearbox and connecting it to the plug in the loom, but no revs in the revcounter..

Any ideas?

Movie from today.

vid no worky!

theres nothing uncommon about a rev counter not working in a diesel.

im not 100% sure if you can just run the sensor fron the top of the gear box as 205 td's do?

i would imigane so.

might depend on the flywheel used.

Yes.. Iguess it might be the flywheel, have to take a look at the 2.1 one and see if it is much difference.

Video again.

the movement on the throttle lever does look very short, if you swapped the arm from a different pump the throttle stop screws may need adjustment to suit.

Yeah I was thinking about that too, but I find it a bit strange that the first bit of movement the revs does not increase at all, just the last 1cm it will up the revs from idle speed.

I think a combination of stop screw and refitting throttle linkage might be the solution.

Does anyone know if 2.1 diesel psa engine are the same as 2.1 diesel from Renault?

I'm interested in 92mm crank so I wonder if PSA and Renault have the same parts on their 2.1 diesel engines?

I see now.

Thanks.

Anymore news?

I am tempted to go and buy another car with xud ... so help and show some more pictures and progress...

Yep, the renault 2.1 is waaaay different to the XUD 2.1. The Renault one only has 88bhp and 140ish lb/ft for a start!! Less than the 1.9 XUD!

Hey,

I know this thread is long lost from 2009, but are there any updates to this please? I'm particularly interested in better XUD engines for my DTurbo, I was looking at the XUD9 but a friend at work is scrapping a 406 2.1TD (XUD11) soon which he'll give me. Over the summer I am thinking of transplanting, hopefully utilisiing as much existing parts (or bits I can rob from his car) as possible.

Cheers

I think it's a fairly straight forward fit, mostly trial and error but no chopping or welding will be involved.

I have put a 1.9 xud in my 205.
