MrG 3 Posted November 20, 2008 Anyone know of a method that will allow the removal of a so far rounded nut in what appears to be an innaccesible location? Rear shock, upper mounting near the exhaust, the nut itself is rounded and I can't shift either this or the bolt head? Do I have to remove the rear beam to get 2 ratchets on it (sort of force a slightly smaller one on the nut) or can I lower that part of the arm sufficiently to get some access? Many thanks
M@tt 77 Posted November 20, 2008 i guess you could try undoing the nuts holding the rear beam to the back sandwich mounts then loosen off the 4 nuts in the boot that hold the beam top mounts to the car, this might give you enough rotational play to pull that part of the beam down to give you better access, pother than that it'll be a case of dropping the beam i would have thought. If you need to drop the beam see if you can borrow an extra pair of hands as although it can be done on your own, its awkward and not much fun!
MrG 3 Posted November 20, 2008 cheers , I did the beam before on my own and is was a real sod to put back on! I am looking at getting a splitter on it so we'll see how it fares.
DamirGTI 344 Posted November 20, 2008 Could try either with an nut splitter , or if you have access to the MIG welder tack weld new/fresh nut on top of the rounded one and then you'll be able to undo the joint (also , during the welding generated heat will be helpful cos it'll burn out the rusty particles and other crap from the nut/bolt threads.. so it'll be easier to undo the nut/bolt assembly afterwards you apply a little bit of heat ..)
