welshpug 1,666 Posted November 19, 2008 they use a different coolant level sender, but all the hoses are the same AFAIK.

jackherer 543 Posted November 19, 2008 so im going to need the level send from a phase1 and then just the header tank. anyone knwo the part number of the level sender? Apparently its not that simple, the late sender wont work with the dash of an earlier car and vice versa.
timmsy19 3 Posted November 19, 2008 ah right. why would that be. i thought the dash was the same on the phase1/1.5 and the 2?
jackherer 543 Posted November 19, 2008 Its not the clocks themselves as they are interchangeable, it must be a difference in the wiring loom somewhere. I think it was Graham (Pugtorque) that posted about this originally, I hadn't even got past the 'it doesn't work' stage myself when I just swapped back to the old style header tank
welshpug 1,666 Posted November 19, 2008 I can't find any 205 wiring diagram that shows it, but the 309 and 405 diagrams show a "coolant level indicator unit" as well as the sender, 2 wires to the sender, 1 to the dash, 1 to earth and a power from the fusebox. pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted November 20, 2008 The phase 2 black header tanks have a three pin level sender where the earlier phase 1's have just a two pin sender. A friends car has a phase 1 type fitted where it should have a phase 2, I tried the wires in various different orders to see if I could get the light working with the earlier sender on a later car but after blowing my stock of 10A fuses gave up. Looking at what Merion has posted above it shouldn't be that difficult to work out but I couldn't get it to work. Looking at the Haynes wiring diagram for the phase 1 sender its just a switch that makes an earth to put the light on from the dash so I would've thought that you'd just need to use the wire from the dash & the earth to get it working.
