Ethos 0 Posted November 18, 2008 Hi guys Notice I get quite a lot of this mayo in my breathers, even after a fairly decent Sunday blast. Had to take off plenty today to get to the starter motor, noticed that the main oil filler pipe has a split in it and there was mayo all the way down and a tiny bit on the pipe into the block. Anything to worry about? Could the split be causing more mayo? Dropped the water today and it was clean (no oil) so guessing there isn't anything serious going on. Also anyone know where I can get another mi16 oil filler pipe? I don't fancy spending over £40 on a silicon one!!! Any tips for cleaning longer pipes with mayo in... seems a bit of a pain. Thanks Hi Ethos, Iv the same problem, I have a bailey oil breather and catch tank and i noticed this pale brown goo in the pipes...i presumed it as water but check the water and no oil same as yourself...last week guess what...headgasket poped lol...im doing a full rebuild atm and its almost back together and when it is im going to try a thiner oil il let you know if this cures it. As for cleaning the pipes i did it with a airline and a hose then dried them out and used a coat hanger and a rag up them lol As i said il let u no if this cures the mayo regards Dan Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Ethos 0 Posted November 24, 2008 Hey Dan Way to scare me I had a 2 inch slit in the main oil filler pipe. I'm guessing this will increase mayo alot as it's directly sucking in moist air. Fitted a new pipe on Saturday so will see if it improves. Notices more oil pressure too with it, infact it's pretty much near maximum now!! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Ryan 99 Posted November 24, 2008 Mayo in the oil filler is normal. It's a design fault from having a separate filler instead of an oil cap on the cam cover. As long as there isn't oil in the coolant then it's mostly probably fine. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Any ideas on modifying this system? If I have to keep standard set-up, will I have to remove the radiator to fit it? Any thoughts gratefully received thanks. You can still use the car but ideally at least try some kind of temporary repair with duct tape or something to avoid any of the Mayo leaking out & making a mess wherever you park your car if its really bad with mayo. Replacement hoses are available from forum member Stew205 of Baker BM.com & you get a forum discount through him or Miles sells these as a distributor for Baker BM. (Both are also on ebay) The replacement silicone hoses from Stew / Miles are cheaper than the oe one from pug afaik & will certainly last a lot longer. It can be changed with the radiator & everything still fitted but I'd guess your car will still have the original band clamps & not replacement jubilee clips so it'll make the job a touch more awkward but still far from impossible.
