Alternator Not Charging?

My car being back on the road turned out to be short lived, now I have another electrical problem.

 

When driving along at night I noticed the battery light was glowing dimly, having left the car for a few days in the garage lo and behold it didn't start.

 

I've just replaced the earth lead from the (new) battery to the chassis but this didn't help at all, I took it for a quick drive and the light was still glowing and it threatened to cut out a few times as well.

 

The main connection on the alt is pretty corroded would this have a bearing or is it more likely the alternator is gone?

Redo the connections. If there really bad it could be causing it.

 

Check what voltage the Alt is putting out after

6 bucks & my right nut says it's your alternator chief.

 

Whilst you're replacing it, I'd renew the alternator to solenoid to battery wires too. They cost only a few quid and will make the world of difference, not just in charging put in starting the engine.

yes almost certainly the alt but put a meter on battery when car is running and if you see below 13.5v its duff, i have a load of vgc used ones if you want one on the cheap

Funnily enough my battery light was flickering the other day. The car started no probs but for the first few miles the battery light was on very dimly.

 

If you car is trying to cut out then it is probably the alternator. Does it worsen with your lights on?

 

Any ideas on my problem? Could my alternator be on the way out?

I thought as much but it is more hassle and expense I can do without at the moment!
