Rear Hub Nut Tightness

Recommended Posts

iamjackiechan

hi

just rebuilt my rear 1.9 hubs and when i had a look in the haynes manuel for

hub nut torque, it says 215 nm, that is a ridiculous amount and when

i tightened the nut to around 50 nm it was almost impossible to turn by hand.

am i being stupid here.

what does everyone else tighten it to.

cheers

will

50Nm shouldn't be particularly tight! I know my torque wrench doesn't go high enough to achieve the torque listed in the jokebook, so I just generally do them FT with an 18" bar - never (yet) had a rear wheel bearing fail or bind on me despite covering alot of miles, so I figure that it must be good enough.

Ive never checked for mine. But i know Escorts are around 250 Nm. So 215 doesnt surprise me.
