CaptainP 2 Posted November 13, 2008 My starter motor is making horrible grinding noises on my 1.6 CTI. In the past on my GTI when it's done this I've taken the starter motor out and had it rebuilt (twice). Is the preffered method these days to go for an XU10 one (I've read up about changing the connector to a ring type). I think for a starter motor of this kinda age it's pointless rebuilding it - and I like the idea the skinny version so that it's easy to remove. If the XU10 starter is the best route, which car to remove it from? GTI-6 is the most obvious I guess, Xantia Turbo..... what else can I look for? Thanks in advance Steve

Theo205 0 Posted November 16, 2008 (edited) try finding a starter from a 306 XU diesel. Some were fitted with a mitsubish starter. Very strong starter and nicer sound when cranking Edited November 16, 2008 by Theo205
