Vss Vehicle Speed Sensor

right almost sorted my turbo wiring, the final bit is the VSS

the XM that the engine came out of had an auto gearbox and it had a 2 pin VSS attached to the gearbox however the VSS module had also been removed before i got it so i just have some chopped wires which i believe went to it. However as i understand it this was simply a signal amplifier and using a 3 pin VSS it doesn't matter that i dont have this.

I've just spent the past couple of hours trawling autodata and old posts and think i know what i'm doing but would appreciate if any one with any experince could double check my findings.

basically the 3 pin plug has a +ve, earth and a signal wire.

i believe the middle wire is the signal wire and this goes to pin 9 of the ECU (according to Autodata CD)

and as far as i can tell pin 1 is +ve and pin 3 is earth

so is it simply a case of connecting these up in that order??

on a few diagrams it looks as though the +ve feed might also come from the ecu as well? almost in a loop as it were (from ecu through sensor back from sensor to ECU)

Ant

This is mine from a 1998 605 Turbo lump, that had a 2 pin connection.

These are the connections on the VSS box connection

Pin 4 ---> 131J goes to pin 11 on ECU

Pin 5 ---> 131? goes to speedo

Pin 6 ---> 52V goes to switched live

Pin 7 ---> 130C - Sensor on Gbox

Pin 8 ---> 129V - Sensor on Gbox

Pin 9 ---> M52V goes to earth

Useful to note though that ECUs must be different depending on year etc. My 131J goes to pin 11 not 9 as in the autodata diagram.

just thought i'd post up that i think in fact the 3pin VSS wiring is slightly different to what i posted up above

looking at the 306 wiring diagrams i have which uses a 3 wire VSS the VSS wiring looks like this

VSS.jpg

and so the pin outs are as follows

Pin 1 = Swithed Live

Pin 2 = Earth

Pin 3 = Signal to ECU

so thats how i wired up, should find out whether its worked properly once i fire it up :lol:
