Tail Gate Styles

Hi Guys,

Basically I have a tailgate without the plastic corrugated trim on it but no badges either. Are there different part numbers for tailgates with and without trim or is it just a case of te trim not being on, and stickers being used to badge the car instead?? The lock fitting on mine is quite loose also!

Cheers, Martin

Theres 3 types really. The early phase1 tailgates had a different spoiler and the line of the boot is different around the spoiler area too. The phase1.5 onwards had a different spoiler that screws on and a more rounded appearance at the top. The tailgates with no trim will be off a base model as this came as standard unless it has been smoothed by a body shop. The lock fitting should be the same throughout though. A pic may be useful.

The lock barrel has a 'U' shaped pressed steel clip that slides round it from the inside.

Pop off your interior tailgate trim and remove it, then bend it so it looks like a scalextric hump backed bridge :D (ill do a mspaint pic to explain better)

This will pull the lock closer to the bodywork and remove any play in its fitment.
