Baz 421 Posted November 6, 2008 I have the same atm, which once you get used to it, isn't too bad, i keep meaning to try another AFM, but for you, first port of call would be to check the throttle position switch is adjusted correctly, that it 'clicks' at the first initial take up of throttle. Highly unlikely to be clutch related. The AFM is the Air Flow Meter....it meters the flow of air really. The air coming into the injection sytem pushes open a flap and the wider it goes, the more fuel the system puts in to keep the mixture somewhere near close. This is fine when the cars were new, but as they age, things wear out, get gummed up and leak and it all goes a bit "Pete Tong" The GTi is renowned for its finickety injection system, its part of their charm! Get busy with the search funtion there fella...there's about a million threads on this topic...try "kangaroo" "idle" "idle problems" "lurching", things like that, there's loads on it! I know, 'cos I'm yet another one fighting mine at the moment. Looks like I've got a massively over- rich idle now that I've fixed all the leaks into the induction system. If you keep searching you'll find out how to fix your own AFM, or at least work out if that's the problem. There's so many other things it could be, I wouldn't reccomend just going and replacing the biggest, most expensive bit in the hope this will cure the problem. I'll be keeping mine well away from a Peugeot garage....I'd try finding a local independant specialist if I were you. I doubt a Peugeot dealer will have had much to do with these cars for the last 10 years! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

jamiej 0 Posted November 7, 2008 Agreed, take the car to someone who specialises in peugeot's, rather than someone who got a job at peugeot cos they know the uncle of the guy whose brother works there. The 205 is riddled with ignition problems, im sure the issue you have got is common with the 000s of people on this site and a simple fix will sort it. To be honest, you buy a 20 yo 205 GTI knowing thats its not gonna be perfect, but when its running like you want it to, you remember why you bought it.
