dan_cole69 0 Posted November 6, 2008 Hi i own a 205 cj. now it has all the cti kit on it and is looking pretty mint, so the next thing to do is to put a lump of some sort in . however im not sure what will fir and how hard it will be. currently there is a 1.4 xs engine (or so i believe) in it. what i really wat to do is mi16 it, but i have a 1.9 gti engine sat in my garage so i may as well just fit that as its ready to go in. you will have to excuse me as im very very very new to this whole engine changing thing and just wanted to be 100% sure i wouldnt have any major difficulties doing it (apart from the obvious ) if anyone has any advice or tips they would be greatly appriecated..... Thanks Dan
Arahan 4 Posted November 6, 2008 Have a search mate, loads of info on swaps including the one your planning on the site, just waiting for you to read through!
jonnie205 1 Posted December 9, 2008 swapping from a tu xs engine to a 1.9 xu engine is quite involved to be honest. You will need to change engine, gearbox, drive shafts, wiring loom, gear linkage, exhaust, cables, all hoses, radiator the list goes on and on. The 1.9 8v eneignes are not fast and you will not see a huge gain over your xs if its healty. I would opt for a Tu 16v engine, nice modern engine and easier to fit in your car
mattbenselin 0 Posted December 9, 2008 I would look at some TU options first such as saxo VTR engine: 1.6, 8 valve, SOHC (90/98bhp) or a better option would be a saxo VTS/106 GTI engine: 1.6, 16v, DOHC (120bhp). Both have lots of tuning options but offer fun straight out the box. These would be your easiest options seeing as your car is currently TU and designed to take a TU engine. Swapping to XU such as GTI/Mi16 can be done with out too much hassle but a lot more parts will be needed and more work involved. You will though see more power, but that isn't everything, it's how the car drives. The TU 16v unit is nice to drive and newer units/less mileage ones may be more reliable than old XU's. Check this 205 rallye out, nice I think you'll agree: http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...t=0&start=
