eddie bullit 37 Posted November 6, 2008 Hi fellas My boss and I were talking motors the other day and he mentioned that his wifes Ka makes a ticking noise on idle. Now I'm guessing this will be an old ford unit that's been in the family(Ford) for years and used heavily in previous model Fiestas. I suggested it could be a bit of slack in the timing chain, maybe an injector or shims? His mates is doing the same as well. he services it himself so maybe it's missed a tensioning of the chain/ belt change on a major service. Any help appreciated Edd. DanteICE 72 Posted November 6, 2008 Find out which type of engine it is, because they ran an Endura engine, which if I'm right were made in mexico. They will last forever if they aren't screwed, if used right are bullet proof. Some of them run Zetec Engines, which can have some issues but tapping, i can't recall them having this issue. Dave G 0 Posted November 8, 2008 (edited) ok like said before got a couple of options with the Ka The endura/pushrod/crossflow engine will give a ticking or metalic tapping noise if the tappets aern't properly or regularly maintained(that includes oil changes) The zetec rocam option are pretty good to, obviously being service helps, has it had an oil change in the last year? Im a ford tech and the zetec dosent suffer with the chain issues that come engines do so i would doubt it would be the chain. Rom 0 Posted November 9, 2008 Im not sure when they changed to Zetecs, but it was a few year s ago . My gf has an Endura engined KA, which sounded horrible untili done the tappets. Its quick and easy to do,they have a sticker on rocker cover giving the clearances.
WooDooUK 1 Posted November 10, 2008 The endura/pushrod/crossflow engines are in the normal 1.3 Ka's The sport/Street Ka, have a form of the 1.6 ZetecSE engine i believe.
Masekwm 2 Posted November 10, 2008 The Endura has been replaced by a Duratec engine. I need the tappets doing on mine as it's so noisy now!
eddie bullit 37 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) Thanks for the advice guys. It is a endura unit so most likely tappets as said. Thanks again. Edd. Edited November 13, 2008 by eddie bullit
