djinuk 2 Posted November 6, 2008 when changing between 1st and 2nd in my 205 it feels really stiff, like you are physically having to force it in , ive got a full quickshift in, and gear rods, is it possible that these need adjusting, and if so how do i go about doing them, as i just banged them on as the guy told me "they are adjusted to standard"

wracing 19 Posted November 7, 2008 hey ive stripped and rebuilt so many of these gearboxes, 1 and 2 are on the same shaft and share the same syncro pair. take off the end of your gear box. you can do this from the passenger side wheel arch and look for play on the selector shaft, 1,2 are always the first to show problems. if there are no problems check the small bolt the holds the shafts down this can work loose. you will have to replace you box oil!! these pictures are of a be3 they are the same just the selection forks are different. tighten this bolt check for any play in this shaft this is the 5th gear, reverse shaft there should be no problems with this this is the selector a small alignment issue can cause the problems your having, if it is these buy a new box off ebay they are a pain to get spot on. hope fully its catching some where, one last thing try removing the linkages and placing the box in gear manually you will need to get someone to hold the clutch down but then you can identify if its the box or the linkage. good luck

jackherer 543 Posted November 7, 2008 i had this, simply that the clutch wanted adjusting. The clutch arm on the BE1 gearbox (where the cable attaches) can fatigue and bend causing the same symptoms, then when you adjust the cable it fixes it for a while until the arm bends some more. Its worth checking and if necessary rewelding the arm on a BE1 box IMO.
