Taking A Bit Of Turning Over To Start Up

Recommended Posts

chris1986

hi all, the restoration of my new 205 is going well just a few small probs which i'm hoping someone can help me with. when the car is cold it will start up in under a second of turning over but if i get it warm then switch it off for a bout 10 mins it will turn over for about 5 secs or so then start up. i'm thinking it may be the coil packing in?? it's a older one mounted on the side of the wing. any one else had this?

thanks

Yeah mine did this, didnt find an answer/cure though as i think my alternators dead on its arse so the whole starting thing has gone tits up now anyway!

Im not 100% sure, but I think i heard the ecu temp sensor mentioned when i was looking for an answer back when it was doing it? Good few months back now though...

Sounds quite normal for a 205 GTi, initial start you'll often hear the fuel pump prime to re-pressurise the fuel system but sometimes when its been run it doesn't always do that & can take a few seconds longer to start.

IMO as long as you aren't cranking for 15-20 seconds continually before it fires theres nothing to worry about, its just a quirk of the 205.

Graham.
