springs 0 Posted November 4, 2008 hi all.. my 306 failed its MOT yesterday so i thought i would get the 205 running again to use while the 306 problems are being worked on. ive come to start it and i cannot get it to fire. its been sat where it is now for a good month or so. i thought it was the battery and ive changed that to the one in the 306 and ive got one step further. now usually when i turn the ignition i can hear the fuel pump at the back wirring away.. now i cant, all i hear now is silence any ideas? ive checked the fuse but thats fine. Baz 421 Posted November 4, 2008 Checked the tachymetric relay? It'll be in a little black box in the engine bay near the battery on yours, rectangle black relay, Bosch/Cartier/Lucas... give it a wiggle, they're tempramental at the best of times...
springs 0 Posted November 4, 2008 had a look but couldnt see any sort of relay pic of the engine bay

springs 0 Posted November 4, 2008 i found the relay.. had a play with it but still nothing.. nothing from the fuel pump either
mattbenselin 0 Posted November 4, 2008 I had similar problem and it was my tach. relay too, but mine was the dash mounted item near the ECU, does same job. Mine was nak'd so bought another from ebay which didn't work either so got hold of a know working one which did the trick. Maybe worth getting a new one, or at least find someone with one and try it to see if that does the trick. Good luck buddy, Matt
Baz 421 Posted November 4, 2008 I take it you're getting a spark at least?
springs 0 Posted November 4, 2008 i believe so.. but like i said i cant hear the fuel pump going in the back.. making me think its something to do with that.. can normally hear it when sitting in the car with the ignition on
BusEngineer 7 Posted November 4, 2008 Im going to sound tight but here goes . . . Had a problem last year, car went flat when i left it on the car park at work, id had a whirring sound every now and again for a few weeks when i turned it off. So got the tach relay off and handed it to the works electrician, he pulled it apart, cleaned it out with WD40 and refitted it and its been absolutely perfect ever since, random i know but worth a try
springs 0 Posted November 5, 2008 well ive got it started.. checked everything.. removed plugs and checked for spark. then moved onto the fuel pump and we were getting 12V from the plug, we then turned the ignition on and i happened to wiggle the wires and the fuel pump sprang into life so all in all it was a dodgy loose wire
Arahan 4 Posted November 6, 2008 Which wires did you wiggle, the ones at the fuel pump?
