How Hard To Re-con A Gearbox?

Recommended Posts

johny105_y2k

As above, i know how it works(well roughly how it works - layshaft main shaft etc). i know 3rd +4th synchro are knacked. and that the diff has wear and that the speedo drive has snapped a 'lug' off,

So while i was tinkering with my engine i was going to send it away for a recon- but i cant seem to find anywhere that does it? ;)

they're all auto places.

exactly what special tools do i require in the means of pullers etc

how hard is it exactly.

or can somewhere good to overhaul it for me.

i understand it'll be a few squid but i want it done this is the 3rd 'good tight box' i've had in 2years they've all been shagged.

thankyou...

johny :)

Miles

Christ you around early!!

Yes I do Gearbox rebuilds as I have all the parts here needed, Joy's of doing them for almost 20 years.

As for DIY it really depends on your tool's and skill level, I think it's easy but even mates of mine who Race and own garages get me to do there box.

If your a mechanic. You should be ok doing it.

Ive never worked on buses....but i would have thought your work would have pullers etc that will do the job.

If not, then buying the tools might make it a bit exspensive for a one off job.

all miles 2 big tbh. plus 90%of the parts are replaced in a full unit, all that stopped when the centeal works closed in the early 90's
