bren_1.3 1 Posted November 3, 2008 just a quick one. my 205 runs a 106 rallye block with the oil cooler. i decided to run it with the 106 rallye radiator, which is a bit thinner than a 205 base model radiator, but its probably the length of the 205 gti radiator and runs quite close to the alternator. there is room but not massive amounts. can i use possibly the base model 106 radiator? which is probably the length of the 205 base model unit, but again substancially thinner. anyone for-see problems with cooling? ive still retained the original 205 fan shrouding, albeit slightly cutdown and i do have a spare fan shrouding from a diesel so can stick another fan in if necessary????? mattbenselin 0 Posted November 4, 2008 The engine should be cooled sufficiently by the standard radiator, that after all was what Peugeot thought. Changing to a smaller unit like those found in the base models will be a downgrade and therefore may not be good enought to keep it all cool. Is there any chance the rad will hit the alternator? If not then don't worry about it. In a GTI the rad is pretty close to the alternator anyway. You could try to re-angle the rad to give a little more clearance but as before unless they are actually touching or hit at any time, leave it be. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Just out of interest, why are you wanting to use a base model 106 rad, why not use a 205 rad? couple of reasons. the top radiator hose wouldnt fit the 205 base model radiator (not without making a new hose, as it currently uses one from a 106 gti, and id like to keep the o.e look and availability of parts.) / it does away with the expansion tank and pipe work / and it felt lighter. although i cant confirm that! You could try to re-angle the rad to give a little more clearance but as before unless they are actually touching or hit at any time, leave it be i see where your coming from but i just dont fancy taking a front end smack and knocking the plastic radiator into the alternator pulley. theres about 3cm of clearance. i cant sufficiently angle the radiator in either direction due to the top radiator hose not wanting to bend too much, and the exhaust manifold coming into the equation. im positive i saw the blue 205 of colin satchell's run an mi16 engine and a base model TU radiator. and if that thing can run something that small then surely so can i? mattbenselin 0 Posted November 4, 2008 Maybe if you were to use a smaller rad like a thicker base model TU one, then get a good fan and a lower temp. fan switch so the fan comes on sooner. The best thing to do is get one from a scrappy cheap and try it. Watch your temps. on a few test runs out and see how it copes. bren_1.3 1 Posted November 4, 2008 theres only something like a 205 base model unit which wont fit the pipe work i have. the fan is a normal 205 fan that is wired in with an overide. i do have a cowling from a diesel so can fit a second fan. guess ill just have to see how it goes.
