autograsser 0 Posted November 3, 2008 in the process of stripping a 1,6gti and have come accoss 2 parts the same one is clip to the radiator and one oder the n/s headlight, now the look like some kind off resistor or sensor?? there about 2-3'' long and round with 2 wires coming off them. any ideas?? mattbenselin 0 Posted November 3, 2008 Think its the coolant fan resistor.
welshpug 1,657 Posted November 3, 2008 yup, the one clipped to the radiator is the fan low speed resistor, and the one clipped behind the nearside headlamp is the Dim-dip resistor.
autograsser 0 Posted November 3, 2008 cool dont need them then cheers
autograsser 0 Posted November 4, 2008 sorry more q's this timr relays theres 3 all in all that im not sure of?? 1st is attched right near the ecu 2nd is a green relay attached to a green plug near the header tank 3rd is a small black relay attached to the coil pack (doesnt look origainal) sorry if these are dumb ass questions jus need to work out what i do and dont need pretty sharpish
johno_78 2 Posted November 4, 2008 1 - tachymetric relay 2 - possibly goes to the starter motor. wire number 46 IIRC 3 - no idea
autograsser 0 Posted November 4, 2008 1 - tachymetric relay2 - possibly goes to the starter motor. wire number 46 IIRC 3 - no idea tachymetric is that for the rev counter (i.e tacho) the green relay isnt that big?? and the wires arent really thick enough for a starter i don think?? Ryan 99 Posted November 4, 2008 The tachymetric relay is for the fuel pump. It provides a safety cut-off function if the engine stops The green one near the header tank may be for the driving lamps.
autograsser 0 Posted November 4, 2008 The tachymetric relay is for the fuel pump. It provides a safety cut-off function if the engine stops The green one near the header tank may be for the driving lamps. Does it directly feed the fuel pump or does it just activate the fuel pump relay? IS there a fuel pump relay?
ablister 31 Posted November 4, 2008 no that is the fuel pump relay. Goes to pump via a fuse in the glovebox fusebox
autograsser 0 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) no that is the fuel pump relay. Goes to pump via a fuse in the glovebox fusebox according to the haynes manual i was looking at the tachymetric realy feeds the fuel pump through a fuse with no mention a fuel pump relay in the diagram???? it just shows the wire go into the fuse board from the tachymetric relay through a fuse the back out to the pump!! is this right??? if not would it still work as im cutting my loom right back and if i dont need a seperate fuel pump relay i aint fitting one Edited November 5, 2008 by autograsser
ablister 31 Posted November 8, 2008 yeah, that's what i meant: the tachymetric relay is basically the fuel pump relay
