djinuk 2 Posted October 30, 2008 I have been looking at some ford escort bits and bobs and came across a carbon fibre roof on one the place that does it say so long you have a good roll cage fitted they can actually cut the roof out and the carbon fibre one bonded on, he also tells me at the edge it will be less than 1mm think meaning a very small protrusion.. I spoke to the guy and hes interested in venturing into the market on the 205's if there is interest in doing any carbon fibre bits and bobs. His work all looks spot on and he said he would try to be competitive with spoox. just wondering then would anybody else be interested http://www.carbondelight.co.uk/index.html thats the website, im thinking about a full roof
djinuk 2 Posted October 30, 2008 what about debadged 3 bar grills in carbon fibre, would any1 be interested in them aswell?
SwedishBob 24 1 Cars Posted October 30, 2008 what about debadged 3 bar grills in carbon fibre, would any1 be interested in them aswell? I'm interested if the price is right.
djinuk 2 Posted October 30, 2008 well he does a cossie grill for £120, so im guesing it would be around that, although the 205 one if more complicated so could be wrong,
Arahan 4 Posted October 30, 2008 Or sunroof blanking plates on carbon Or a dash
Paintguy 0 Posted October 30, 2008 I hate to burst your bubble, but a 205 roof skin is a whole different kettle of fish to an Escort one. Just go and have a look at it and try and find the seams I'm not saying it isn't possible, but he'll have to come up with some way of joining it on to the A and C pillars at least
Henry Yorke 269 3 Cars Posted October 30, 2008 what about debadged 3 bar grills in carbon fibre, would any1 be interested in them aswell? Practically speaking, there was a whole long winded thread on here about them and not one was made. I sold a superbly made one with all the badge backing removed etc for £30 on ebay inc badge. People will have one for £20-£30 but not pay anymore IMHO so not cost effective
djinuk 2 Posted October 30, 2008 i can see your point about the roof, i guess he would make it complete with a pillars, not sure what he could do about the c pillars... as for the grills i read about the group buy, i simply made my own in the end ..

bren_1.3 1 Posted October 30, 2008 i damaged my old roof by sticking a heavy box on top of it after i removed the roof lining. they are that flimsy and thin the weight saving would be negligable. more show than go i'd say.
Batfink 201 Posted October 31, 2008 there may be some gain to centre of gravity but its not going to be massive. It would certainly be possible to make a carbon roof. The only way to fix it would be to bond it on. There are products available that this carbon guy will no doubt be already using. Only thing is where the roof joins onto the A pillars and C pillars it will look very messy. Personally I dont think its worth even considering. Streamline carbon have made one for the 106 and its only real use is for show (though its halved the roof weight) It cannot be used for competition as virtually every race series does not allow them. This sort of changed Bics plans to race his 106 in anything but Time Attack which is a shame. As the 205's owners are more into cost effective performance rather than show i think the market is virtually nill. Also for a sunroof plate i'd prefer Kevlar or Kevlar carbon. Its cheaper and wont splinter in an accident and is less likely to allow objects through into the cabin area in the event of a roll or other accident. Spiky 37 Posted October 31, 2008 that escort looks like the "Twins" on and has quite a fair bit of carbon on it http://passionford.com/forum/showthread.ph...highlight=twins as for the roof, i agree with paintguy, there are no seems like the S2 plus, if you rolled the carm i would not like to have Carbon fibre everywhere,
djinuk 2 Posted October 31, 2008 fair doos, looking more into it, im not to happy with the messy look that would be evident on the c pillar. Out of interest where could i get a sunroof plate from? possibly carbon
Batfink 201 Posted October 31, 2008 you can get a plain sheet of carbon from anywhere but to have a smooth look a mould will need to be made. I think it would have to be bonded from underneath to sit fully flush. Paul from Xsport would be good to advise. They make carbon bits for me.
djinuk 2 Posted October 31, 2008 awesome , you see im worried as my 205 has a electric sunroof, and the runners obviously go almost to the back of the car, and i dont want it to leave holes there.
