dino20vt 3 Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) Hi can anyone point me in the direction of the above? I need to know the polarity of the speaker wires as I have conflicting info. Cut a long story short, i bought a car and the red connector has been cut off the original loom, the ISO cut of the car radio and both joint together using insulation tape (and incorrectly). Ive identified the speaker pairs i.e a colour and a white, using a square 9v battery and established the whites are the positive, the colours negative. Ive been scrap yard and got a replacement red connector and length of loom to re-attach to the car aswell as a converter (red connector to ISO). The converter is labled up but the striped negatives (green, purple, grey and whites) connect to the white positives of the car loom, whats all this about?? weejp 0 Posted October 28, 2008 I'd be interested in some suggestions too, I've got a similar problem too I think. I want to attach pic1 to pic2 then hopefully onto pic3 (fingers crossed it works!!) - but haven't had the opportunity yet so any pointers would be useful. weejp 0 Posted November 10, 2008 I was going to attempt to wire up the original stereo shortly. What I'd like to know is what tools, etc will I need for this. Will I need a crimping tool, wire cutters or will electrical tape and a steady hand do the trick? Also does the OE Clarion stereo have a cage thingy as I don't have this - make much difference? johny105_y2k 1 Posted November 13, 2008 i wouldn't use just leccy tape. in an ideal world sodler + heatshrink but for speed + ease crimps are your best bet or connector block as above. so yes you'll need cutters + crimps - multitool usually found in the clearance bin in halfrauds for under a fiver with a few crimps. and all stereos have cages its suposed to stop them being pinched, if there was no cage your stereo wouldn't be secured to .... well anything. hope that helps johny
jackherer 543 Posted November 13, 2008 You can check the polarity with the 9V battery you were using, connect it and if the speaker pops out you have the battery + connected to the speaker + but if the speaker goes in the polarity is inverted.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted November 14, 2008 If your wires still have the numbers on them you can see the polarity from them iirc, r/h is 220 (+ve) & 220a (-ve) but if the numbers have gone from the console end you can always ring them through from the door end with a multimeter.Graham.
