New Engine Problem

Recommended Posts

vickiw106

I have just put second hand bottom end on my 205 gti rally car due to the crank/rod bearing going on my old one

I know the heads ok as I had it reconditioned when I took it of last

But now it kicking out blue smoke when I rev the engine

I know the bottom end has been stood around for a long time, :) could this be reason why it’s smoking

Or have I got more serious problems

I have not yet driven the car to see if it smokes under load

Also both oil and water seem fine all bleed through ok and there is no excessive oil pressure problems

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Ian

If you are confident the head is Ok then it points to worn piston rings. As its for a rally car I'm suprised you are putting an unknown second hand bottom end in there, surely you want as much power as possible??

when money is tight are the seller tells you that the complete engine was mint (and it did look mint) and second hand engine is as good as a new one.

Simsy

If its smoking without load its going to be even worse under load i'd expect. :)

Worn rings looks like the culprit here. You could try a compression test and see just how worn it is.
