SPGTi 2 Posted October 24, 2008 While the engine is in pieces I thought I may as well get my inlet cam reprofiled. The question is what spec. to ask the cam to grind it to ? I know PeterT does the regrinds but he has not replied to my PM and getting it done locally will save postage. So is something like the Catcam 4903106 intake profile (267 / 228 / 10.95mm) feasible as a reprofile of the std intlet cam ? I will be keeping the std exh. cam.Will this "drop straight in" without fouling spray bars ? The head doesn't appear to have been skimmed before so how much can I take off without worrying about valve /piston clearance ? What compression ratio would this cam combination work best at ? petert 588 Posted October 24, 2008 (edited) Hi Steve, sorry about that. I must have missed it and/or accidently deleted it. Because the RS cams are so mild, it's difficult to put anything reasonable back on them without making the base circle too small. The Mi16 cams are much better in this regard, as they have a bigger profile to begin with. Also, postage to/from the UK for one of those cams puts it near the price of a new cam. Once over 2Kg postage becomes expensive. I doubt you'd fit that grind on a standard cam. You'll notice that the 4903164 (and 106) inlet is also the 4903109 exhaust. The 106 exhaust grind "might" fit on. My advice would be to buy the 4903164 inlet and run that with your standard exhaust cam. I was trying to understand how Peter offers a stage 2 regrind (which seems to be very similar to the Catcams profile that I posted). So is a PeterT stage 1 the wildest you can go by regrinding a std cam ? Or does Peter have a trick up his sleeve to keep him ahead of the competition with a stage 2 regrind ??
