Supercharged S16 Suck Through Weber Idea

Recommended Posts

Ive been thinking of going down the route of adding a eaton or similar supercharger/compressor and sticking with the dcoe carbs, cheaper than bigbore camd motor. The main problem is room, may have to have carbs above bonnet. Does anyone know if a eaton is suitable for draw through setup where air and fuel pass through the charger. Would be happy with over 220hp so water injection would be used. Would i be able to use one 45dcoe or would 2 be better?

I've seen them used this way in older cars (minis etc) but i'm not sure how well it will work with the setup you mention. Proper turbo carbs and a blow through configuration would be better i rekon. It'll be far far better on injection though. al

I have some experiance of running a supercharger in this configuration ( wet ).

The biggest thing you need to be careful of is back fire through the inlet manifold.

Some big American supercharged engines have back pressure valves for this very reason. when i ran my engine wet ( 2.2 Opel ) using DCOE 45's i didn't bother. I had the the odd pop but nothing serious. Maybe if you were a topfueler i would be worried.

For the best results you should be looking at a downdraft setup using gravity to feed the supercharger with air/fuel mix.

ie, carb on top of the supercharger.

You can achieve good results using this method, however it maybe a bit hit and miss regarding mixture. Fuel injection is always going to be the better option.

Ive found a american book on turbo and carbs so im gona look into it more. Cyman what charger did you use and where was it posistioned in relation to the carbs and intake manifold(height wise)? My main concern is fuel puddling and the backfire
