Recommended Posts

jonnie205

Just thought i would add some pics of my ongoing escort project. It started off life as a 1.3 gl auto in beige which i picked up from the local scrappy a few years ago. It was mint genuine 30k miles, 1 owner never damaged or painted, a dream find. This is how it looks now!

Brief spec

Full group 4 works spec sheel

round rear turrets, bid diff and tranny tunnel, full weld in multipointed cage, chassis skids, chassis mounted engine, alloy arched and tubbed arches, seams wleded chassis and braized door shuts,

6 linked axle

fully floating atlas axle with zf diff, 4.63 cwp, big shafts, AP brakes on rear

bilstein coilover suspension

front ap monte cfarlo brakes

corsa b variable electric power steering

6 speed box

S2000 engine

jenvey throttle bodies

Omex managment

bespoke wiring loom, made new from scratch

racetech dash

fully areoquipped

full stainless stell 2.75 inch system

carbon seats, door cards and foot plates

lightweight door and seals

alloy rad and tanks

quick rack

adjustable rose jointed front compression strut suspension

This is a very brief spec but it should be an awsome car when done, all work has been done by myself with a bit of help from a mate and occasionally my old man.

will keep you all posted on progress

Yep, bootiful Jonnie, bootiful!

Are the '6 injectors? If so, it shows how good they are.

(I'm starting to plan a new project car, as I want RWD too - standby)

interested in what manifold you run. Is the engine tuned in anyway?

The exhaust manifold is bespoke stainles 4 2 1, internally the engine is std for the minute, i couldnt get teh std s2000 one to fit without lots of work, its quite tight for space with the crossmember and rack, it was easier to make a new maniofold, nicer in the end too

Lovely looking car.It will be very quick too.Great choice of engine.

Someone not too far away from me has put a S2000 engine in a MK2 lately and he is getting 260bhp out of it,just a standard engine with throttle bodies.Sounds great too. :P

Looks fantastic and very much how I would like to do an Escort!

I would try to make provision for another 50/60mm of inlet length though to try if you can.

i have some longer trumpets i can fit, do you think that will help? not sure they will fit inside my filer tho, the boody backing plate too ages to make fit as they come blank and need cutting and hole sawing to fit,

I would expect parallel spacers behind the trumpets will help tune it better. Increasing the trumpet length increases the tapered section, which doesn't affect pulse tuning as positively in my experience.

On my H22A7, the difference between 320mm and 360mm overall was night and day, mid range on/off! The S2000 cams are damn near identical to that, so I expect you'll see something similar.

Was going to ask the same thing, as i was wondering what classes it'd be stuck in with the spec.

lovely car, does the vtec still work with the jenveys?

Yes the vtec will still work fine, i have the software to map the ECU myself whiich i will do but it need to be using the top spec omex 700 series ecu to be able to do VTEC, i will get it mapped and running but omex will map it properly on the rollers. I am going to set the vtec up to kick in lower which makes it more drivable as a rally car

Ime gonna use the car mainly for tarmac i think, it will run in the 2.0+ naturally aspirated class

Hi from New Zealand. I'm just about to start a similar project. Is it possible to see a good photo of the headers and the steering column rod, and the engine mounts so i can get some ideas?

Thanks, any help would be appreciated!

The headers were made once i had the steering rack and column in and the engine mounted etc. the engine is mounted form the chassis rails, usually the lump is mounted on the x member. the steering rod i made using a std escort colum cut down to length so it just protrudes through bulhead, this is located by a broze bush. the corsa pas unit was mounted onto the cage and pedla box mount on some bespoke moutings and the 2 uj setup connected to the solid shaft coming through bulkhead. i will try and get some more pics

Thanks for that info. I was a bit worried about the height of the engine, but it look to be not too difficult to fit it in. Might be a long project, about to start stripping the donor car shortly. Might post some pics as we go.

One more question - what diff ratio are you running? And if you have been driving it do you think the diff ratio you have is ideal?

Thanks.

The S2000 is a very tall engine, i had to chop a small section out of sump to get engine to sit back and then lower crossmember 1 inch to get it all to fit right. The way to do the engine mounts is to fit engine and box from underneath, you will have to chop tranny tunnel away so keep chopping until engine sits correct. Use jacks and a crane for this. You will then need to try steering column and fit crossmember to check for clearence, also try the exhaust manifold as with a wet sump you cant use the stock manifold. When your happy with position the fabricate mounts, you will need to drop engine out again to weld on the chassis mounts then throw it back in to make the arms.
