Little Help With My New Mi16 205

Recommended Posts

Guest TEXR2000

Hello Everyone, I have just brought a little project for my self, a white F Plate 205 1.9 with Mi16 engine.

I have a few questions, how do i know if it is running Mi16 Loom/ECU or 8v?

I had a 1.9 a few years ago and it always run better with super unleaded, does the Mi16 need super or is ok with normal unleaded?

Its got a few probs that i need to sort out like it wont idle when cold, found the idle valve? on top of the inlet unpluged, pluged it in and the engine races to 2000RPM. Not a fan of the injection system really was thinking of going down the twin 45's route, but i spose thats a bit old fasioned now.

Here is a few pics

Also the car has a upper strut brace, was thinking of going for a lower one aswell as my old one had one and handled well. what do most people do? front, rear, lower, strutbrace?

From the looks of things that's the Mi loom. 8v loom would need a distributor adapter. Quite how that loom ahs been fitted and is another matter. Some people rip out the complete 8v loom and replace with the Mi. Others splice Mi into the 8v.

Handling-wise, keep the upper strut brace, sort out your rear ride height, make sure your suspension components are in good order, including arb and wishbone bushes. Most people beef up the rear ARBs to better match the front setup.

As said it's running the Motronic set up,

At least the Idle valves are easy to change!!

With the strut braces I would tend to get a new upper one too as it looks like you have a E-tech one which you can wobble around with you hand.

Cool mate, Im in north London. Would be good to have the car looked over by someone who knows the car. I donno anything about the car or the Mi16 conversion.

So far on my question list.

The car needs a new rad, at the moment it has a 205 Turbo Diesel rad with twin fans, looking at £140 for a new replacement. Is it worth keeping or converting back to 1.9Gti (£48 new)

I have a speedo cable but there is no drive in the top of the box, are these easy to get hold of?

Looks like a Mi16 loom, or most of it. there is some un-used conectors. need to try and find the oil pressure and temp connectors/wires as the gages arent working.

Thanks

Thom

Going to be doing that 2moz, the rear is 60mm higher than the front so going to sort that. Gonna do a search now to find out whats bits i need. From what i gather need a 13mm bolt to get out the metal plate and a bolt to go into the bar then use the slide hammer.
